Looking For Storage !!!!!!

I Need Some Help!!! I'm Looking For More Storage On My Boat. I Have A 17' Cool (2002). I'm Looking For Any Kind Of Sugestions. I Know My Console Isn't Very Big Like The 17'cc, But, I Bought The Boat This Year As A Left Over From 2002 At Dealer Cost (couldn't Pass It Up) I Thought I Saw Some Info About A Mod. Done To The Front Storage Areas That Is New For 2005 Or 2006 That Can Be Done On Older Boats?? But, I Can't Find It Again. So, If Anyone Has Solved The Storage Issue Can You Pass Some Tips On Or Some Pictures Of Mods Done Already With Your Input.. Rod Locker Would Be The Best If I Could Find A Way. Also Does Anyone Out There Use A Cover For Their Boats. She Won't Let Me Put It The Garage Yet. It Gets Old Moving Gear In And Out Every Trip..

For boat covers, I used Iboats.com and got a custom cover that fits the boat like a glove.

What type of things do you want to store? I have made some mods based upon my needs for diving. Added an additional battery under the console for powering all the electronics too.

More Storage

I have a 170 CC and added a tackle box from Cabelas. Required cutting the console, etc. Photos in the 170 Mods section. Do not know how feasible that would be for the Cool.

I bought a cover from Cableas. Fit is OK (its designed for a bow rail and wider beam), but its tough and well made. Has a 6 year warranty. Held up well with the snow last winter, although I made sure to clear it off after every storm.

Here is a pic of the cover I have. Good for both storage and trailering.

Hi Rick, here is what I did to help with the dry storage, I bought another hatch like the one in the front of the console above the seat. I installed it on the rear of the console on the extreme lower left under the steering wheel. It opens up alot of room in the unused portion of the console. We can stow all the life preservers, flairs, air horn, and mounted the fire extinguisher to the back of the new hatch door. Also i borrowed (permanently) the design from the 2006 170c/c for our 2005 which are small floors that insert in the 2 front hatches and create a flat floor in the bottom for your anchor and ropes and all kinds of stuff. They are completely removeable and you still can use them as fishboxes when you know where and what your doing in the boat that day. I made them out of 1/2" thick Grey Starboard to match my floor. If your local Dealer is cool,(mine is, Boathouse in FL) they will let you trace the 2006 floor boards out on paper and you can make them, It was fun. Next challenge is a nice box for the aft, port, storage hatch. I will post it when I come up with a cool solution.........Dan in WPB FL

Hi Rick,

I don't know if you have bought a cover yet, but I got an inexpensive one at Kmart. Walmart may carry them as well. It doesn't fit as nicely as the pretty maroon one in the picture a couple of posts lower, but it has worked fine for 3 years and it was under $40.
I use bunji cords to tie it down. I will probably buy one similar to the one below in a couple of years.

Hi Tygh,

Couple questions about your 170CC cover as I'm in the market now for a cover to be used primarily while the boats moored at the dock unattended for several days at a time.

Is there a draw string in the hem so you can cinch it tight when using it as a mooring cover?

Also, do you think it would fit my 06 model with optional stern rails and backrests?

Finally, looking at your photo above, what type of fabric is that? I saw something similar called Prism fabric while surfing around the web.

thanks for any info...

Yes, the cover I have has a drawstring. Check on Iboats.com to see if they have the options you list for the 06 170cc. They cover is custom, so the rear backrests would cause a problem with my cover. I did go with the Prism fabric and it is very durable.
