I have the same setup and question. When I bought my 170cc the previous owner cut a big hole in the dash for the GPS wiring. I since rerouted the wires and filled the hole with an in-dash compass. I am interested in either connecting the lights for my compass or maybe adding a battery meter or oil pressure gauge. Can I use the unused wires under my console for any of these options?

Guys, I am no electrical expert, but I have tried to listen to those that know a lot more than I do.
Unless you know exactly what you have, and I didn't know what I had when I started, I would replace all with new. Then you know the guarge of wire, how it is all put together, fuses, etc. My thought, and it's free so worth what you are paying for it, start with new. Get ride of the unused wires going nowhere. Maybe a new fuse block would be a good starting point.

I think Suitkids is talking about the original harness that came with the boat. I bought mine new and there are a lot of unused pigtails wiretied into the main harness under the console. For other options I suppose. It would have been nice to know if they could have been used. Instead I did install a fuse block and have run all my added on toys to it.

Nice fuse block where did you get it? I just got a fishfinder for Father's Day and getting ready to add it, and would like to wire it like you said. I agree with the unused wires that look like they came from the factory, it would be nice to know what they are for.

I gave up long ago in trying to figure out all the unused wires and added a fuze block like Junkman928 did. I hooked it up to one of my deep cycle batteries in the console and run all of my "extra toys" from it. Works great and I know which wire goes where from it.

Jim I bought it from West Marine. It is made by Blue Sea Systems. I glued it to the back of the live well. Put some Rule on the back of it, duck taped it to the back of the live well for a few days, removed the tape and it has never fallen off. Probably never get it off. It uses the little plastic mini fuses.

I installed the same fuse system sold at West Marine using the glass fuse holder instead of the plastic fuse holder. I like old time fuses :-)

I used to be of the same mind set until I had one of those glass fuses break while removing it...I had little bits of glass all over the deck. Now I stick with the blade type fuses.
