Wink Trolling motor electrical receptacle

Has anyone had any problems with the electrical receptacle on the 190 Bay that you plug the trolling motor into? I have a 54 lb. Great White Saltwater motor on mine that keeps intermittently stopping and restarting by itself. I've pretty much eliminated any other source of the problem but the marina can't find any obvious corrosion, etc. that might cause this. Or has anyone had this problem with a Motorguide motor? I love the motor (although if I had it to do over again I'd get the 82 lb. one) but can't fish the flats here in Key West without it and I no longer trust it to keep me from running aground. Also what do you put on the motor's plug to slow down the corrosion? I keep scraping it off with a file each time I go out. Pretty soon I won't have a plug left.

Any input would be greatly appreciated

MM

I had a similiar problem with a 74lb thrust Minn Kota trolling motor. I cleaned all the connections and it kept happening anytime I ran the motor over half speed. I finally decided to change the fuse/circuit breaker located on the battery connection and I've never had the problem again. I think that the fuse/circuit breaker installed was too small for the size trolling motor that I have.

I had the same problem with my 82lb Great White. I also changed the 50 amp fuse attached to the battery terminal and it fixed the situation.

Thanks, guys. Sounds like exactly what's happening. I had called Motorguide and the techie told me that while there was something in the motor that would cut off if it got too hot but it wouldn't reset itself that quickly. As far as my second question is concerned I was in a marine hardware store and the salesman sold me a spray can of "Corrosion Block" which apparently a lot of people use to stop corrosion. On the way out another customer stopped me to tell me that he used it all over his boat and it works!

Had the same problem on 19 w/84 lb Minn Kota. Upgrade breaker! Also Corrosion Block is good stuff but does not last long. I keep a little tube of waterproof grease + a sheet of 200 or 300 grit wet-or-dry sand paper. Before each use, hit your male terminals on the motor plug with a couple of turns with the sandpaper and you will fix 95% of your problems

I have used automotive light bulb grease squirt into the boat's plug-in a couple times a year. So far no problems with MinnKota 101 36v.
