190 Bay Question

Hey everyone...I' interested in purchasing a 190 bay but I have a couple of quesitons I'd like answered first...I'm in the Raleigh, NC area so I'll mainly be fishing the lakes around here, but I also enjoy going to the coast once in a while....I know h this boat will do an awesome job in the creeks and inlets, but I also like to go out and do some spanish mackeral fishing...I do most of my spanish fishing out of the little river jetties...I want to make sure that this boat is big enough to get me out no further than say 5 miles offshore...when it comes to the ocean, I am pretty much a fair weather fisherman, so I'm not going to be going out when there are over 3 foot seas...does anybody on here fish in the little river, SC area or somewhere close to there that can give me an idea as to whether or not this boat will do what i want it to? Thanks for your help..

Tightlines,

Kevin

I fish the Gulf off Panama City with my 190Bay and it does an awsome job I've had it in some pretty big seas (4-7) and it takes it well. got to run slow and careful though. A softer ride than the equivelent fiberglass.

PS Don't do this on purpose, Its a scary ride.

I take my 190 Bay frequently across the Long Island Sound from CT into NY - approximatey 10 miles. I also run along the coast of CT and NY up to an hour each way and another 10 miles back across. The biggest seas I'll go out in approach 4', but stay in close in anything greater than 3'. These aren't ocean swells, rather, short chop that is difficult to navigate in a small boat.

I fish mainly the bayous and lakes of south louisiana but have also been known to go out in the gulf of mexico and tackle some serious trout 5 - 10 miles offshore under oil rigs. I don't get too worried until the waves kick up around 4', after that the fun starts to run out. I have never had a serious problem in my 190 even in 6' - 7' seas althoughy it gets a bit scary.

Little River and 190 Bay

NCSU, I fish the LR area quite often (have a place in Cherry Grove and moving to Sunset this spring-"have a condo for sale"). I go out the inlet at LR and also the Ocean Isle put-in. You will love the 190 for what you are planning to use it for. I go out 5 or so miles and have 'no' problems as long as I use common sense. 3 foot seas is about all I want for fishing comfort, but it can handle more. I also enjoy Spanish fishing and have some success there. Some at the LR reef and also trolling 300 yards from the beaches of Sunset and Ocean Isle. Make your purchase, get a 4-stroke, and go fishing. You won't be dissappointed. If you want to get together sometime and fish the area, I'd love some company. You might consider fishing the MacFest in July at Morehead City for Triumph owners. Good luck. Don

the 190 is the best all around boat in the lineup i think and perfect for what you plan to do. i have seen them out oregon inlet on good days and you will love it on jordan lake. however, they dont fair well at anchor in the pamlico sound if the wind kicks up on one of those got to be there bull red drum night trips in the fall. or at least on the nights i was out there ,but then again i've had waves break over the 210 cc at anchor i got to replace the 190. pamlico sound is a finiky body of water!!!!
if you are ever over my way , give a shout and we'll go fishing.

Run out in the Gulf 35-40 miles several times when the waves were 1-2' and long wave seconds. You don't want to voluntarily go out in 4'+ waves unless it is slow trolling and they are spread out well. Triumphs float high on the water so that helps alot.

our coastal sounds between the mainland and the "outer banks" barrier islands average 12-20ft and can be 20 miles wide in places where we fish for red drum. imagine 20 mph winds traveling 20 miles in 12ft water create 4-6 ftrs seemingly every 1/2 second!!!!!!!. oh to have 1-2 ftrs like you gulf guys have most of the time that was why i dont recommend 190's if the boater plans on using it in our sounds.
