black stuff

I have a 2002 190 bay, which I bought new. I was wondering if anyone has this issue with their 190 bay. there is a black liquid substance that comes out of the base of the bow fishing set base and get all over everything. It has been doing ever since i bought the boat, but it cleans up pretty easy so I never really cared too much. thanks. P.S. a friend of mine (JP3) just bought a truimph and he found this web site, and I first saw it a couple of days ago, its awesome!

first welcome to the family and glad you found the site. lot of great folks here to learn from and hope you will continue to post those questions and we will do our best to help you out.
that black stuff is aluminum either as oxidized or wear from pedistal with its base. oh and the grey paint will come off the base later if it hasnt started yet--wait fer it!! no drain provisions in base ,so water carries the stuff out once it fills up.

I often wondered about that. My starboard seat does that, but not the port / capt seat. It is balck and messy, but does clean up.

Hello COXG, glad to see you found this site. I take it you faired out okay after Katrina did her thing? I live on the Westbank, across the river from New Orleans. We should get together sometime.

I always thought the "black water" was water mixed with graphite from the bottom of the pedestal.... I guess it could be aluminum as well.

I took the seat pedastle base out of the bow this weekend and stripped the paint off. I am now applying multiple coats of clear coat to see if that improves the issue.

Guess whenever you have exposed aluminum rubbing together in the presence of water, the dark corrosion stuff occurs and is heck trying to clean off if you let it dry overnite. Not sure how long the clear coat my last by worth a try.
