Newer 190 owners with rear draining scupper

I was wondering if any of the newer 190's with the scuppers that drain out of the rear of the boat were having any issues? What I mean by issues is water coming in through the scuppers when you are at anchor or trolling along slowly. The earlier model 190's get lots of water in the boat, the popular thought is this is due to the heavier weight of the 4-stroke engines. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Yup, the new ones that run out the transom still get water in the boat. Currently using sink stoppers from Wally-World.

A little,
But I use my (now famous) yellow foam practice golf balls to plug them Mine is also in the process of getting another set of flapper scuppers installed (removed the noise making ball type that never sealed long ago) since we found one that was cracked and that should help greatly.

Now in the past, I never get a lot of water on the deck (maybe a 1/2 gallon on each side) even with my 150 Honda which is not light, but yes if I walked around on the back casting deck I would get a little more... Here of late though I was getting water out of the inner hull drain (suspect cracked scupper that was on that same side) was causing that issue, this while adding some extra weight and hull draft at the same time.. So I stand a possibility of not having to use the foam golf balls again once those leaks are all fixed and the hull is all drained out

I may have an idea that works on for us on our 210 CC.

Please note that the rubber plug has a screw that you tighten. This expands the rubber plug so they become sealed into the scupper holes. Then after the day is over you unscrew and remove them, and the water you have, drains out.

We found that they really keep the stern of the boat much dryer.

Living in Florida, we could not find them at our local pool store, but did find the plugs on line at http://www.poolproducts.com .

The plugs are called: “Winterizing Pipe Plug", and they come in other sizes that might work for your boat. We use the 1 1/4 inch size.

Their Item Number was: WNA TEC WP7 and as of December 2005, the price was $: 3.00 each plus shipping.

Close Vic,
But I bet it is still a slower process (speed is king for us Non-Retired dudes you know) than reaching inside the glove box and popping in 2 foam golf balls in each drain while standing behind the helm

Speed may be king, and my suggestion may take a little more time, but NO water comes in thru the scupper holes when these are in place.

So speed with seepage, or a little slower with NO seeping?

Life is just full of choices.

Problem not solved. If you seal your deck well and you are in warm water, guess you can live with it like I have. For you cold water folks, rubber boots are nice!

You have to remember Vic,
That these foam balls are used “inside” and not on the stern this way if it rains and you start to get some pooling on the deck, then you can pop them out and hit the throttle to get it to drain. The balls though don’t leak a single drop of water and only take a second to install or remove

Ideas to make the transome sit higher in the water.
1) Back to the old 2 stroke
2) loose some weight, diet. Ouch!
3) all weight to the bow, stow all batteries forward
4) add flotation
5) add height to transome
6) tie helium balloons to transome and call it "kite" fishin'
7) use helium to fabricate "close cell foam"
8) no one over 100lbs allowed behind the console, see #2
9) due to high gas prices, only 1/4 tank max fuel
10) due to impending mega high gas prices, ditch the motor and install mast

I don't really have much of a problem unless I'm standing right on top of one. Even then, water drains out very well. Just make sure there are no earwigs and other crap in there.
