hull dflections on bottom of 190 bay at bow end of boat

Dick
I have a 2002/190 bay boat that has hull deflections on bottom of hull near bow end.I notified the factory and they sent me a v-bunk (about 8 inches long )to be mounted to the front of the trailer. they told me that this v-bunk would take the stress off the hull and that the hull would eventially reform to original shape due to propelene having a memory. My question is have you seen this on any boats in your area and will this fix actually work?PS. I bought the boat new and it was like this when I took delivery but so were the other 4- 190's on their lot so I thought this was just the way the boat was designed. PSS> I now know that this is not part of the original design.

I would send a pic but I don't yet know how to do that on this site.[/img]

All the 190's from that time seem to have that depression on the foreward hull. We have not made any modifications to the trailers. We think that it is a molding deflection, rather than a trailer problem. It has no bearing on the running surface or effect the performance of the boat.

190 bay hull deflections

Dick,
Thanks for your quick responce. You pretty much took the words right out of my mouth as I believe it is a mold issue as well. I know it does not hurt performance, but I am some what concerned about what effect it will have on resale value if that time ever comes around. Thanks again for bringing your experience with these boats to the forum.

What trailer do you have? My 2002 190 doesn't have these deflections but I have an EZ Loader four-bunk. Are the deflections on the bottom of the hull, up around the bow or in between? I'm trying to imagine what these deflections would look like.

Also, are your bottom bunks mounted appropriately? Around here somewhere there were measurements for the 190 bunk locations. Assuming that we have the exact same boat, I'm wondering if it is a bunk issue and not a hull issue.

hull deflections on 190 bay

Cincinnati
My trailer is an EZ loader with the triumph decal on it and the bunks are currently set to factory specs. The deflection starts about 1-foot in front of the front end of the inside bunk. The only way I can describe the deflection is to suggest you put your hands together as if you were cradling the bow and then bring your palms together. The deflection is where you bring your palms together. It doesn't affect performance but it does make people ask me what is wrong with the boat. Triumph sent a V bunk that mounts across the front of the trailer and helps support the bow. So far it hasn't helped the problem.

If you were to leave your boat in the water for a couple of days, would the deflection go away? If so, then I would suspect that the trailer is causing the problem. But I must admit it sounds like you and I both have the exact same trailer, and I haven't moved my bunks from the factory postion.

More brainstorming... can you load the boat further up or further back on the trailer? I guess this could be done by moving forward and back the location of the bow stop. Just more ideas.

These hull deflections, are they more like "concavities" or sunken in areas? These are located under the walkway between the baitwell and trolling motor battery compartments and infront of the bunks on the trailer. If you percuss the hull, it will have an empty sound.

You described the deflections better than I did, have you seen this before and do you have experience with the problem.

I have a crack right in the center of the depression, thru the area that as the 2 or 3 ridges. Guess the "ridges" are there to stiffen the hull or for water deflection. Either way, a crack developed this past summer and looks like it is buckling inwards. I have checked in with Joe Behrman at Triumph warranty and he "has me in his system" but haven't been able to get in touch with him since last month. The inner hull needs to be drained and left alone for a while and repairs welded, in North Carolina....That may be the delay. Maybe the bow support bunks should become standard if that "really" is the case. The hull may just be hollow and thin there and can be beefed up. Either way, I will want the bow support after the fix as well as the inner hull drain.
The good news, it's under warranty and second, might get a fishing trip to NC! Bad news, it's been in the 70's here in AL and been wanting to use the boat.

190 Hull Deflections

Finally got a picture of the 190 bay hull deflection. Let me know if this is the type hull deflections seen by others. Picture is located in gallery at 190 section.
