Must Do Modifications

Thought we needed to restart the "Must Do" mod list for the Bay 190 that was lost from the previous site.
Previous mentions have been,
1) adding a second garden hose washer to both bilge drains or completely replacing the drains with stainless still retainer types
2)pulling up grey running boards, clean and drain if holding water then doubling the ss rataining screws, Rule Eleastomeric the panels down and into every screw hole
3)Sealing every nook and cranny through out the hull, stern, center counsole, etc with Rule Elastomeric
4)Scuppers, the prime source for incoming water, if you are running a 4 stroke, have multiple batteries in transome, using transome with ice/fishbox etc, the scuppers go under water line...not so bad if everything is sealed....but the next year the seal won't be so good as the rule starts to dry out....so you can live with it and hope to never have a bilge failure but others have corked them off with plastic and rule, yellow foam practice golf balls, and Whale 3/4" plastic check valves. Your choice, it still an experimental "must do" but eventually, you will feel the need.
5)Seal the front storage/fish boxes with rubber seals and rule elastomeric and a few stainless steel staples so the water coming over the bow doesn't ruin your iced catch.
6)Check to make sure all hoses to and from livewells and bilges are double worm clamped
7)Check livewell motors for cracking or improper installment into their bases
8)Check and properly adjust 4, that's FOUR bunks that should be on your trailer for proper hull support
9) get on your back and inspect your hull for scratches or cracks and check the thru hulls for proper seal and lack of damage.
10) water test your boat on the trailer. plug up the bilge drains and scuppers and see where the water is going.... or hopefully not.
11)should the 190's have inner hull plugs? Hopefully another thread just started will clarify
12)replace those flimsy foam rod holders with anything else
13)add bilge thru hull flapper to prevent back siphoning

So, what's next?

What's the purpose of those boards and is there a drain under them to the hull? And what is the 'rule' and where can I get it.? Starboard side scupper water is visibly seeping into the starboard running board.

Thanks!

The boards cover up moldings in the hull which aren't quite big enough to make useable storage, form sttructural stringers, and aren't solid to save weight.
Rule is an elastomeric sealant which is the manufacture's recommend sealant;silicones and the like(including 240) will fail.. use google search for the outdoor superstore and they have rule. The factory states that wal-mart carries it but I have yet to find it there..Rule is manufactured by Sudsbury Industries of Massachussetts

Greenmiller, I forgot to add that depending on the year whether there are drains or not. Earlier ,2001, either had none or poorly placed drains. It took a few model years before engineering placed the drains close to where they should be. The last time I actually saw one the drains were still
narrow, no more than 1/4" od. These drains empty into the bilge.

Ive installed a drain for the inner hull.
I bought a plastic transom drain plug set at West Marine.
Model # 307506

I installed it in the hull area above the existing 2 drains.
Ya need to lie on your back to drill the hole into the transom inner hull.
Seal it w/ Rule, install 3 screws and your done.

I open this drain when ever its on the trailer.
It seems to slowly drip for days.

Also buy extra plugs, just in case you loose the one.

Foul-Hooked, did you get any water drainage from your inner hull drain location? I thought the drain was suppose to be exactly between the bilge plug drains into the center stringer foam. I talked to Joe Behrman at Triumph warranty and he seem to agree. I have a crack in the hull and this is where they put it to drain the hull. I have a pic in the photo album.

Molar
I visited one of the dealer here on the west coast and saw one of the newer 190 w/ this drain in the same location.

When I was first installing my transducer, I noticed droplets of water coming from the holes I drilled to mount the bracket.

Thus, I assumed water was present inside the foam.

I leave it open when ever its trailered and it seems to drip slowly for a day or so.

Placing the drain at the center stringer makes sense, but I was'nt sure at the time, of what I might hit if I drill through that area.

Thanks

The reasoning for putting the inner hull drain where I did (other than what I have read here) was that it is the point which was "low" in the center stringer at the same level as the bilge/transom plugs. Would a drain high/above the transom plugs drain all the water? I am sure the dealer did this for a reason....wonder if we need more than one inner hull drain location? I have gotten 5 gallons of water out of this lower location in 2 weeks....wonder if a second higher drain like yours would allow the water to drip out faster thus creating a "vent" of sorts. Or, am I only getting water out of my drain because of the crack in the hull? Are these two areas connected? Guess we need to ask Dick.

Molar
Cutting another hole into your hull is never a good idea.
Let me know what Dick says.

Tried sucking the water out w/ a wet/dry vac. No Luck.
Gravity is the only solution. :x
