Lock corrosion

I finally got to take my boat out Sunday on the lake. Last time was in the FL Keys back in late November. I had washed down the boat pretty good when we got back in November. [motor too intenally]
Well, I discovered that the locks on the front storage/fish bins have some corrosion. One, the key will not go all the way in and the other one is a little stiff.
What can I do to fix this situation? The locks were replaced under warranty almost three years ago because they were beyond working from the salt. I sprayed them with ARC corrosion preventative stuff yesterday.
Thanks for any help.

Well I hope that stuff you sprayed on works. I usually dap some w-40 to help prevent corrosion. Mainly due to our high levels of hard water deposits. I also use corrosion X its smells like GEAR LUBE. But it stops corrosion in its tracks. I use this to wipe down all metal and locks before the winter storage.

I gave up on those locks and my Clarion radio a while back. Certain things just don't fair well in the salt. The latch still works fine, but the actual key-lock cylinder is a goner.

My starboard side is still unlockable but was able to get the port side free and working by flushing out with WD40 a good bit. Finally got the key to insert but still can't turn the starboard....so that's where I store my anchor and rope.
Good luck and let us know if you find a way to free them up.

WD-40 users take note WD40 causes rust problems if used incorrectly. WD40 is a penatration liquid used to remove matter (lubricants and rust) to free something up. If you do not apply lubrication after using WD40 to get something to work again the rust problem will only get worse. We use fluid film (can be purchased at most parts houses) to lubricate anything we spray WD-40 on.
PS In most shops the cans of WD-40 you see sitting around are used to clean the grease off the mechanics hands.

People often mistake WD-40 for a lubricant since things work better right after being sprayed with that stuff. In reality you have just removed all the dirt, rust, grease or grime that was preventing operation and replaced it with a weak lubricant / pentrant. With all the protective barriers removed (except the WD40) the rust will often be worse the next time it occurs.

I have used 50 w non detergent oil mixed with 80% paint thinner sprayed on metal in fl. by the east coast for yrs. 100% No nothing is. but done every 9-12 mo. you will see a big difference. the thinner evaporates and leaves a good film
