37 MPH @ 6100 RPM w/Yammy 115 4stk?

Just doesnt seem right. Full throttle 2003 190bay in freshwater is 6100 rpm's at 37 mph. No fishing gear, 230lb male, 110 female, 38lb 4year old. Im assuming the screw is too tight. It looks like it's in the 13"x17" range. I get the feeling (via yammy noise) I should be running something with more bite....13"x19" or better.

6100 is unsat. I probably should be within the 5600-5700 realm....right?

Nocturn,

Take a look a these Yamaha performance bulletins, url's listed below, they should give you an idea of the correct prop for your rig. However, this is only a guideline. Unfortunately you'll have to experiment with different pitched props to find the right combination for your boat. I'm already on the fourth prop and I've only had my boat two days. Thank goodness for a great dealer. Another alternative is to do a search through the threads and find the thread for the pro pulse prop. This prop is adjustable through four degrees of pitch.

Hope this helps

I have the 115 merc with my 210. At roughly 5800-6000 rpm I can get 39 miles an hour. thats with 2 fat people 200, and 250 lbs full tank, and full bait tank. BARE in mind only with the right FLAT conditions.

Did anyone notice that the 2 different links had 2 different props. 17 vs 19? I will have to check mine when I get home. I have the same combo but I have never seen close to 39 mph. As a matter of fact this Saturday the best I saw was 34 mph @ 5400 rpms. Even trying to trim for the last couple of mph. I would start losing mph as I trimmed the motor before I got to 6000 rpms. I was on the ICW but the water was like glass that morning. I do have trolling motor with 2 batteries.

That's a moot point Brother , you cannot compare and 210's Deep Vee hull with the Modified Vee hull of the 190 Bay even if they have the same HP engine... I do agree with some of the other comments that it does not sound as if the present prop is getting enough bite. More than likely launches like a rocket, but runs out of bite as you get to the top end of the RPM band. Sounds like it is time to mount up the variable pitch prop and do some testing for sure

Hey Nocturn, Check to see if the trailing edge of your prop is cupped. I have a
190 bay with a mercury 90 four stroke that has a 13-3/4x15 pitch with cupped
trailing edges and I'm getting 37.8 gps speed at 6000 rpms (factory mercury aluminum
prop) I found also that all props are not created equal I bought a hustler prop for a
spare and thought I would try it since they claim it performs like a stainless. WRONG!
34 mph at 6100.

What do you mean by "cupped trailing edges"? I am going to check mine when I get home today. I think this discussion might be helping me get a new prop. I'm too slow.

Stingray, note that on the two different performance bulletins the 13 X 19 prop is aluminum and the 13 X 17 is SS. Two different puppies. A SS prop will likely have less flex and your boat a slightly higher top end speed. Furthermore, from what I have read and heard, all props of the same size, same material are not necessarily the same-cupped differently, slightly more/less aggressive, etc. That being said, I have a 2003 190 Bay with T-top outfitted with a 115 Yammi 2 stroke and a 13 X 19 aluminum prop (the same pictured in the one performance bulletin) With two well-nourishedmen at WOT, trimmed out on glassy water, no wind, I can squeeze out 5500 rpm and GPS measured 39 mph.

STINGRAY502, look at the outside edge on your prop and if the last 1/2" or so is turned
out then your prop is cupped if it is flat like the rest of the ear it's not. If the prop
is cupped it gives it more bite. Most props made these days are but I've seen some
that were not.
