Well, I drill access holes in the e-box to run GPS & XM antennae, power and ethernet cable for Garmin 3206 network bundle install. Got a large poly cutting board @$10 and cut it to size as a false bottom inside the box. I used scrap to mount the a Garmin network adapter to and it wedges into the back of the box once I put the false bottom into place. Everything is nice and snug and no thru bolts in the e-box except for the mounting hardware to the t-top. Used a countersink to allow thru bolts on poly boards to sit flat. Everything is removable in a jiffy, plug-n-play style!
Flipped the battery selector on and everything booted up with just a single touch of the MFD power button, no problemo. Next, gotta run new transducer to the sounder mounted in the center console. Then run the ethernet cable thru the t-top to the box. Think I'll leave that till next weekend. Its 5 0'clock somewhere. |

Raining....Pulled transducer cable today, pretty easy. Ran small "fish" into black plastic tube in cc and it just ran out to the transom battery box compartment, taped on the transd. end and pulled it on into the cc. Will mount sounder on starboard wall of cc. Waiting on some ethernet cable for the final pull thru the cc-Ttop-ebox then done and ready to seal up all the holes with Rule.

Did final install today. Ran ethernet cable from e-box thru t-top tubing into cc and then attached Garmin's ethernet adaptor end......what a pain! 8 pin, must separate wires than align them in order A or order B depending on what the "other" end was...then keep them in order sliding into the 8 pin coupler after you have peel 9/16" of the jacket off and remove the blah, blah, blah and exposed the whatever wire and cut back to 5/16 then wrapped with copper tape, blah, blah, blah and crimped making sure the tips are all perfectly the same length to be seated at the end of the 8 pin connector, MY G!!!!!!!
Glad I only had to do one end of one cable that way. Mounted sounder inside cc on the starboard wall above the speaker and, DONE. Boot up and all's a go. Will activate WX this month for the trip down for Memorial Day and hopefully do a little Gulf action with the family. The 2006 Boat Electronics Project is COMPLETE! |

Thanks OspreyVic, I actually enjoyed the challenge of this project. Pulling wires thru a T-top is intimadating but do-able. If I had paid $65/hour for someone to do this.....ouch! But it would be worth it done right. I'll be glad to walk anyone else through the install in more detail, just ask. Can't wait to get out in there and seatrial!
