Wink 2006 - 190 Bay Purchase???

Brand new to boating and really seem to like what I am reading about the Triumph boats.

Received a quote on a 2006 - 190 Bay. I am just not sure if the price is good... Wondering if any of you would be able to help me with this. Boat is outfitted with a 90 Honda 4 Stroke. Comes with a EZ loader Alum. Trailer. The dealer is quoting me a price of $19,997 as described. Also quoting me list pricing on optional swim ladder, high bow rail and bimini top bringing the package to $21,322. I have compared this to some fiberglass models and keep coming back to this boat. Would use mostly in the bay as well as some lakes in PA. Self, Wife, 10 yr. old, 8 yr. old and Chocolate Lab would be occupants... Should we take the plunge or continue to shop around??? Do dealers try to better other triumph dealers??? worth while shopping other Triumph dealers?

I would appreciate any of your input...

Bill,
I own a 170CC. If I was going to purchase a 190 Bay especially with two children who will probably want to get into watersports since daddy has a boat, I would look for one with a larger outboard motor. check out some of the forums here and you'll see most of the guys have at least a 115 hp 4 stroke. I can't help you with the price, but if you don't mind driving to NC I would give Merritt Marine in Hillsborough NC a call. Great guys to deal with.

190 Bay Purchase???

John:

Thank you for the information. I too believe that the 90 Honda will be a bit too small for what my usage will be... I do like to go fast when possible... I may just get in touch with the dealer in NC. We do vacation down there and it would give me an excuse to come down a little early this year to scope out fishing grounds as well as pick up a new boat...

I will let you all know how it turns out...

Thanks again for the info...

Best Regards,

Bill

bmc,
For what its worth, I just purchased my first "real" boat last month. It is a 2004 190 Bay with a 115 Yamaha fstrke, swim ladder, bimini, VHF, Cdplayer, Depthfinder, and Aluminum e-z loader. It is in great shape, and I bought it from a private owner for $15,000
I have already put 15hrs on it and LOVE it! Im sure you will be happy with a triumph whether you find a nice used or drand new one! Good luck!

JBAMFORD:

Thanks for the thoughts. I have not ruled out a used boat. They just seem hard to come by... I guess you guys really do like these things huh??? Looks like I came to the right place. Everyone has been very encouraging so far. I guess we have some homework to still do prior to our purchase... I am ready now though... Really want to be out on the water soon!!

Will definately look at a bigger motor than the 90 though...

Thanks and good boating...

Bill,

As Fridaysoff mentioned, Merritt Marine is the place to buy your 190 Bay. I recently bought a 170 there and I don' think I would have found a better price anywhere else. They are very knowledgeable and will treat you well. They currently have several 190's in the showroom so you could possibly drive home with one instead of waiting for one to be made. Definitely worth the 6 hour drive.

Tom:

I am definately going to get ahold of them to discuss what they have in stock as well as price. Would not at all mind driving 6 hours to save alot of money, as long as it does not cost me the savings in fuel to get there and back... Thanks for the information

Watersports, need 140-150max hp and proper propellar. Cheaper to add stuff onto your boat than the dealer but maybe more hassle. Bay 190 does well on lakes and rivers and light ocean use.
Enjoy

Molar:

Could not agree more with the max HP for watersports. Unless the kids change their minds, they will not be skiing much. I offered to buy one of the big pull behind rocket tubes and they do not even want to do that??? I dont get it... They just want to fish... Sounds just fine to me... (Their Kids, I am sure that they wil change their minds) When I started this search, the first quote I got was for a 190 Bay with 90 Honda. I am now not going to settle for less than a 115 Yamaha. If I can get a good price I would consider the max HP for this boat. Still kicking around price from a couple of dealers but want to make the decision soon... It is that time... Dont want to miss out on any fun...

Primary usage area will be on the Bays. This is the right boat for the job correct??? I am new to this and want to make sure that the family is safe while having fun. Would be mostly costal until I get the feel for Boating. Would eventually like to venture out a little further for bigger fish when comfortable and if weather allows. We considered the 17CC and the 190 Bay. Family and I feel most comfortable with the 190. We want something to grow into rather than being cramped to start off with. Spoke with Dick from Merrit Marine yesterday. He gave me some pricing that the Boss and I are reviewing. Prices look pretty good so far. Will let you all know how it turns out... This is a great source for the new and novice boater... Thanks to all for the great advice...

Greatly appreciate it...

Bill...

local vs not local

BMC,

Don't forget that there is an advantage to buying local.
If you get a motor that needs extra attention you will be glad you purchased from a local dealership.
Some dealers may make you wait weeks to get an appointment in the middle of our short season. Not to mention driving down to NC for Work.
My dealer is further South but its were i use the boat. I would at least hope dealer loyalty will pay off if i need some quick turn around during our short season.
Dealers realize that we come back for parts , service other toys and now to mention upgrade boats.
If i have a problem i am expecting my dealer to take care of me because i used him for the purchase and not just warranty work!

Good luck see you on the flats!
