Braking Windshield Screws

HAs anyone else had this problem? I have been ruinning my 190 Bay is some pretty good waves around the bays and pass down here near the gulf but I have not been "horsing it" by any means--yet I have broken 3 screws since owning the boat for 2 months. The screws weren't real tight to begin with--did not tighten them since I thought it would help the flex and vibration?? Have not run more than 20 mph in 1 footers, and stay at 15 or less in 3 footers.

any thoughts other than running slower in 1-3 footers?

Never even heard of that happening. I've been running out to the Trysler Grounds for several years pretty hard and fast with nothing breaking. I did ditch those velcro rod holders pretty quick. Maybe see you out there, I either leave out of Fish River or Cotton Bayou.....may run to the Orinsky in a few months to see the show!

Never heard of such either... Breaking how? The screw pulling out or is the screw snapping in half I have even taken mine off and on to help clean the windscreen and never has such an issue. I though, would have them snug (not super tight) and you should be fine. I would also make sure you are re-using the same washers to help spread out any load on the Plexiglas.

I have had to replace the small black plastic things that the screws screw into on the windshield. I took a beating one day and found that the windshield was loose, the screws busted through the "little black things" on nearly every screw. I just went to the hardware store and found the exact same "little plastic things." I found that you can not tighten them too much or the screw will pop through the "little plastic thing." I have an 02' 190, I do not know if they use something different now.

Just don't over tighten. Do you have anything attached or pushing on the windshield?

"little black things" = "bushings"

I checked my windshield and it is "just barely" loose. It will jiggle if you put some force on it but not so loose that it would vibrate or bounce freely.

I replaced the "little black thingies" aka black plastic bushing with stainless bushings from Home Depot two weeks after I got my 170CC and haven't had a problem since (4th season). I think I have $2.00 in the upgrade.

My windshield had to be replaced under warranty. The new one didn't exactly match up with the previous holes in the console. Seems that they had to make a new one for my boat.
I have had a couple of screws snap in half. The problem is the part of the screw that is still in the console and not removable. So, where do I put in a replacement? Would have been nice if it broke off above the surface, then I can remove it.

I have a 2002 190 bay and have had to replace 2 screws so far. One broke while on the water (nothing too rough), the other while on the trailer The screws break off flush with the console and I used vise-grips on the inside to back out the screw. It seems that the screws are 1) too small for the job and 2) stressed due to the curvature of the windshield. The bushings are fine. I plan to replace all screws with larger stainless bolts.
