I run a stainless 14x20 3 blade on DF 140 Zuke and prior to the T-top, antennae and two T-Bags 45mph was top speed.
Check your tach for at least 6,000 at WOT think it can be 6200 or so. I don't think the 14x20 would be my choice for watersports though. Secondly, check your gas. Fresh, new high octane is what I stick with and we don't have ethenol here yet. I expect to see the max #'s drop as E-10 keeps expanding. |

we us major brand 89 octane and with the engine trimmed really high we can usually get to 5900 rpm. however with the enmgine trimmed that high a turn can through the prop out of the water. with a lower pitch prop you should get a hiher rpm. it seems as if there is something wrong with our engine if it won't go that high. we have had all the required services by an authorized dealer.

Top speed though is not everything, not at 3 bucks a gallon of fuel... The prop that brings you the best cruise speed below 4500 RPM (above this range you are burning a lot more fuel for not much gain with most engines) will bring you the best range thus the lowest fuel burn rate.
Now if you know what your current performance numbers are both GPS and RPM wise, then a good "starting" point for getting the correct prop can be found on this page... http://sites.mercurymarine.com/porta..._schema=PORTAL

We have basically the same boat and motor, 190 Bay with a 140 Suzuki. I checked out our speed this weekend and it was 42.5 mph gps monitored. We are running a 14x20 aluminum prop (not in very good shape). The engine is turning 6200 rpm's at wot.
We are ordering a new 14x19 S/S which I expect should put our speed around 45 mph, possibly more with right conditions. It sounds like you are running to low a pitch. I have researched the props for this motor and boat setup and everyone I have talked with recommends a 13 7/8 to a 14 inch diameter and 19 to 21 pitch prop. This should give good max speed and keep the rpm's in the right range. |

Molar is correct max RPM on a 4 stroke 140 Suzuki is 5600 to 6200. That is 200 rpm more than their 115 HP.
As a rule of thumb figure on a 200 to 300 rpm decrease as each inch of pitch (the second number) goes up.

i have a 2005 with suzuki 140. when i floor it, i can get it up to 45. you have to trim up after you get on plane. its supposed to do 50 but that would be under optimal conditions.......i was told the the best motor to have on the bay 190 is the 140. |
