Fly Fishing From the 190CC

G'Day All. Thank you for all the information in this Forum. I have decided to get a 190Bay CC and will power it with a 115 Yamaha if I can find one. I am in the process of looking for a used boat. I enjoy fly fishing for a variety of species. I would appreciate some advise on three questions. First, does anyone have experience using this boat for fly fishing? I would prefer not to use a stripping basket but just drop the line on the deck. Second, can two people fly fish from the boat--one in the stern and one in the bow? Third, given continual improvements in the boat that the manufacture claims is there recommendations on what years would be best? By the way, I will be using the boat in some of the bays on Vancouver Island as well as local reservoirs in Idaho. Cheers, Gary

Gary,
You can definitely fly fish from the 190 CC. To make things easier, you can make it more fly fishing friendly by removing extra stuff that you line will catch on like cleats, etc. For those items you don't want to remove or can't remove, you can lay a net (cast nets work great) over the area you want drop your line on and fish away...no hang ups. I do this on my 170CC and it works great. Just watch your back casts and two people can fish out of it easily. Good luck with your search and tight lines.

I bought my 2002 Bay 190 for flyfishing vs a flats boat. It was cheaper than most, can run a trolling motor into 2' easy and some have mounted platforms and pole. You can also get the family in there and ski on occasion..."family boat", wives like the sound of that!

I have rarely tangled in any of the spec'd components on the deck.....but more often my toes or buckle on my Choatas' catch the fly line. Stainless pop up cleats are nice but expensive upgrade for older boats and not much of an issue. I do seem to catch the cleats more when cast netting but no big deal.

As long as you recieve a transferred lifetime warranty.....check with seller and Triumph customer service to make sure it was activated on a used boat or to make sure the dealer sends in the info if new....your good with all years. Of course the newest years are tweeked more but nothing that would make me sell my 2002 for a 2006. Look at motor weights and horses since some motors with more horses are lighter like the Suzuki 140 vs 115. Not sure how Yamies work. A Mercury Optimax 2 stroke would be the lightest option esp. if you want to pole into skinny water and probably the cheapest option too.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Bow and stern are both fine as long as the boat is positioned well for both.
