Do I need a special mounting kit to mount a trolling motor on my 02?

Any Triumph dealer can supply you with the mounting bracket that you see on many of 190's pictures here. I don't know if it is really needed per say (ask your dealer on the real engineering need) but it does make for a nice sturdy place for mounting one and I suspect that was the reason for the bracket.

Use to be that you could get one in 2 power coated colors, black and white and maybe one still can? But mine has held up very well to the saltwater it gets used in... It is important though (like anything) to spray it off with fresh water after each saltwater trip to help keep it looking factory fresh

Get the bracket if you can. It comes with a backing plate and a hatch to install in the port fish box. You will have to cut a hole in there to allow access to install the backing plate. The factory left that area void of foam so we could get in there. The kit also comes with two plastic wedges. Creative use of the wedges under the bracket will make a nice and sturdy installation. You will probably need to buy some longer bolts for mounting out closer to the bow.
Luck and beers,
JR
