I own a 2002 186 bay, The wife and I had it out on the 4th for fireworks on my lake and all was well. The wife was cleaning out the boat a few days ago and a crack has appeared on the starboard side scupper on the interior... This has to have happeden in the last month. I really ony use the boat on my lake so it dosen't get a lot of hours. The strange thing is it looks like the foam has expanded and caused this problem, it is more of a split than a crack, it is about a1/4 inch wide, and I can see the foam underneath...
The bad part of this is I started a new business and I really need to sell it to make ends meet, and now I'm stuck with a split hull. I tried to e-mail triumph, but no responce yet... heres a few pics for your viewing enjoyment...![]() ![]() I guess I'll wait to hear from Triumph to see what we can do to fix this situation... I guess I will take out the thermal imager and see if I can see how saturated the hull is. |

Well I did talk to some one there, problem is I got to tow it 100 mi from here, and I no longer have my truck, just a little yota 4x4, and this boat feels so heavy, I'm guessing water intrusion. Not knowing the added weight, will the trailer handle the added capacity? I don't want to risk a breakdown halfway there, and it just would'nt be safe to tow it that far. I use to have a dealer just 5 miles down the road, but not anymore. They want me to wait and call a newly certified repair, and I know they might have been trained, but I don't want to be a guennie pig either...

There have been some posts where people have stated that the factory came and picked up there boat and then delivered it back to them.
You might want to talk with Dick at Merritt Marine. He might be able to point you in the right direction as well as have the ability to commnet on the info you have requested about the weight issue and the trailer. Here is Dick's info from his profile. http://www.triumphowners.net/forums/...tposter&t=1851 He is a great guy and is very easy to talk with. If he doesn't know the answer, he can point you in the right direction. I hope this helps. - Kevin |

Did you ever get a response to your crack issue? I ask because I have exactly identical cracks in the same location. Hooked On The Bay is the nearest dealer to me and I'm not sure if they know the cause. I will call them when this season is over. |

Seems they are not picking up boats anymore unless their recommended Master repair dealer fails. So I will be taking my 2002 to the dealer @300 miles away. It does give me a reason to visit the parents and possibly get some late season fishing in.
That's a heck of a crack, haven't seen one there before. If you have a 2002, it should be a 190 Bay, if it is a 186 it should be 2001 or earlier. Good Luck |

I live in Calif and I know of a few hulls that have cracked. The three I know about the boats were replaced. Someone at Triumph said they were not going to replace boats anymore they would fix them. I would think a president has been set.

As time and repair techniques have improve, most cracks are reinforced and repaired. Reinforced being the important modifier since the etiology of the crack has to be addressed. Sometimes scupper modification and trailer mods are performed as well.
I am sure there has been a hull replacement in the past but the only one I am familier with had an internal leak (older Triumph or Logic) and floatation foam damage causing the boat to not be able to "dry out" thru the inner hull drains and additional holes made into the hull at the factory. |
