I was told by the dealership that if they installed the stab plate I bought it would void the Yamaha 115 warranty. So, for now I guess I'll just run the hustler 19 pitch prop. Have you guys heard of this?

Ace,

I am always amazed at how some people are always making claims for someone else. I would want to ask the question about warranty voiding of the folks at Yamaha. How does the dealership know the answer?

Logic doesn't always play into a decision by a maufacturer to honor a warranty claim, but if the modification has nothing to do with the mechanical failure, ie; broken rod or bent valve, does not relate to the install of a BMS plate, then how does the dealer know if it will be a problem or not.

Just some food for thought.

Below is a portion of a post to that other boating forum in response to a question of warranty cancellation when a stablizer plate, in this case Permatrim which is very similar to BMS, is installed on a Yamaha and some other motors.

__________________________________________________ ________

"The use of a Permatrim or any other bolted on device will not cancel your engine warranty as long as the potential warranty claim is not related to the bolted on part. Example.....if you have a engine that looses oil pressure and seizes, the installation of the Permatrim has nothing to do with that failure.
I am a dealer for Yamaha outboards, Mercury Marine and Volvo Penta and have verified this with all three. I got the same answer from all of them.

Thank you,
Andy

I added a really nice in-dash marine Sony and two speakers on either side of the console. While installing I had the radio on with the speakers laying on the deck. They sounded like crap until I mounted them on the center console. It's the accoustics of the hollow center console that make it sound awesome, plus no wiring problems. When you add two more in another spot, you won't have that accoustic advantage, and may find it hard to wire them.
