Getting Stab Plate and new prop/screw
Hi All,
Well thanks to the threads on this board I have ordered my Bob's Machine Stab Plate and a new Hustler Prop...I know technically a screw. Anyways I am taking the boat back to where I bought it to have them do the work as soon as the arts get here. Here is a list of what I plan on getting done: Decals are peeling so I want them fixed. New stab plate installed New prop installed New radio installed...with baby on the way I have no time right now 12V plug is broke. I pushed too hard and popped the end out. Bow lights did not work last time I was out. Stain Steel drain plugs..the 2 in the stock location and 1 for the inner hull drain = 3 Well I will post back after I get all work done. I have a question my one year warrenty runs out in OCT. I have 3 years on the Yammy and lifetime on the hull. Has anybody purchased an extended warrenty that covers everything? |

What do you mean exactly. The boat should lift out of the water from a stop quicker and it should stay on plane at a slower speed right? Also a little more top end speed? What affect will it have on "skinny water"? I fish up a lot of creeks and I have to trim the motor up quite a bit to get to some places. Will see some drag from that?

Yes, and yes...
Now for the rest of the physics involved... Stick your hand outside your truck window at highway speeds like a wing "but" only stick out 2 fingers (normal outboard configuration) see how much you have to change the angle of attack to create much lift. Now put out your entire hand and make the same changes... The BMS plate has done the same just not as bad as one of those "massive" flexing plastic models. This is why I say you should not need to use as much engine trim (keep it flatter) to have the same effect as before, and IF you really pitch the engine nose downward (raised up while running), you can create some extra drag from having to "drag" that plate point downwards as it digs into the water. Go to the BMS home page and watch the video to see great examples of such. The plate creates lift, but with the generation of lift comes drag... So your boat will handle different and it may take some time running it to learn how to trim it out (use less trim) at the different speeds both off and on a plane now that it is installed... If you get a increase in top end speed, good (some do and some don't) In theory, if you can reduce the amount of hull in the water while running on a plane, (like running with less fuel or weight in the hull) you will get a increase in speed for the same horse power used. As far as skinny water goes (which I live in) the plate will help you launch quicker, but skinny water or deep makes no difference since water is water. The greatest effect of the plate though is being able to stay on a plane at lower speeds thus using less fuel... Clear as mud now?

Well, I finally dropped the boat off at the marina's. Satly Dawg in Jacksonville, FL if you are wondering. I gave them the "to do" list and also I might get a fuel/water seperator installed just to be safe. I will post an update on when I get the boat back and I get a chance to try it out. Thanks for all you guys that posted links and stuff so I could order parts. I may never get a chance to meet you, but you help was greatly appreciated.

Stingray,
I have installed the BMS plate on my 210 CC. I have noticed that less trim is needed. I have also noted that it takes more steering input to get the boat to turn. I think that is due to the additional vertical fins in the water at the edges of the plate. No matter what, I like the performance gain, and it looks cool. I bet you will like yours. Codfish |

I hope so Codfish. I can handle a littte more steering input, what I was most aggravated with was I was only getting 31 mph top speed at 4500rpms. I know that is slow for what I should be getting. I don't expect to break the sound barrier but I figure the prop and stab plate should put me closer to 38 or so....hopefully. I like the fact that the boat should plane at slower speeds.

Well, they called today. Everything is done and ready for me to pic up. We had to have some discussion about the SS drain plugs. It seems that the Triumph factory guy was on the fence about having the marina do it. After some discussions with evryone and referencing the site and Dick @ Merritt they did it. I should be able to pick it up this Saturday and get it on the water Sunday.

OK I finally picked up my boat and had it out yesterday, Sunday. I like the mods! I was able to pick up about 5 mph in light choppy water. So I am running about 35 or 36 ish. I can live with that. I was getting 31ish so I don't feel like I am missing out on some of the egine potential.
I don't know if it was all in part of the prop or stab plate or both since I had them both installed. It does get up on plain alittle quicker and I noticed that when I slow down to cross other boats wakes it does not settle down and when I jamb the throttle it is back up on plain quicker. Also I noticed that doking is easier with the stab plate. I can put the motor in neutral and have more steering input to slowly approach the dock. As far as the drain plugs. I did not get ONE OUNCE of water in my bilge area. It stayed very dry and was much easier to get to open and close then the old plastic plugs. The stereo is awesome. I could not beleive how good it really sounds. I wish I would have done it sooner. I may add 2 more speakers to it because with the speaker on each side of the console I can not hear it when I am running, but listening to music while fishing was nice. I am sorry to reply to my own thread so much but I hope this help some other in the future. Next modification...ditch the flimsy velcro rod holder and get some more sterdy. |
