Exclamation Water in fuel tank!

Anyone had trouble with water in fuel tank. My 2002 190 shut down on me. I found water in the fuel filter. Placed a jar at hose after removing the filter, start pumping the bulb. Pumped off 6 gts. of water and 8 gts. gas before water was gone. I got caught trailering it one night for a total of 60 miles, plus setting in the Waffel House for about a hour waiting for the rain to stop. This was a real down pour. Would it be possible to get that much water though the vent at the gas cap? The 190 is kept in a garage, if outside it's covered.Do not trailer covered. I did buy gas before the rain started that day, could be possible there was water in the gas. Has anyone had trouble with the vent before?

Skeeter,

My 190 has always been outside. I do not have a garage to put it in. It is now under a canvas boat cover but I did not buy that until about 4 months ago. I have never had a problem with water getting inside of my gas tank because of rain. Here in FL becasue of hurricanes we see a fair amount of rain. I would look into the possiblity that you got some bad gas. Just my guess.

There's an "O" ring on the neck of the filler cap for the fuel tank. Check and see if it's there and or in one peice, I found mine this year had a big nick in it and I don't think it was making a good seal.

You also could have gorren a slug of bad fuel.

All the more reason to install a good water fuel seperator type filter.

Had this problem w/ 2 different boats, and learned a valuable lesson. Mine was due to condensation, in the fuel tank. We now keep a full fuel tank and added the BEST- and biggest water seperator. Havent had the problem again.
