Old thread but I'll add an update.

We don't get to work on the rig as often as we'd like. It turns out, there was a problem with the tach. Johnson marine had it adjusted incorrectly. A quick trip to Hardin Marine (Honda shop) and Bob had it adjusted in just a couple minutes. Another addition will soon be a PermaTrim tab for the thing. I ordered one for the workboat and one for my personal boat. They should be in this week.

As for boat durability, we discovered the starboard side deckplate is cracked and the compass broke/leaked somehow. Warranty items and we are waiting for parts.

Just remember...
  • You will need less engine trim and too much trim can lead to some high speed loss from too much drag.
  • It is not designed to be a step.
  • Some engine builders state that the installation of such can void the warranty while others (like Honda) sell them as a factory accessory so check your paper work first.
I placed my order with Bob's online Sunday afternoon, UPS deliverd the plate yesterday. Now that was fast! Got it installed yesterday evening, everything went pretty smooth with the exception of one of the mounting bolts snapping off.

Looking forward to the weekend to test it out and see how much difference there is.

Thanks, I ended up going with the PermaTrim. I also got one for my personal boat and mounted it the same day I got it. So far, I like the results. I may have lost a couple MPH on the top end but the slow speed stuff is better. Seemed to help in the chop. On the Triumph, I'm hoping it'll help when the boat is heavy.

Just to update, the Permatrim was an amazing change on the team boat. Easily planes with 3 people and gear. Ride of the light boat is also improved. I did break 4 bolts on my personal boat but I think I stretched them when I mounted it. I replaced the bolts without issue.

check plug

When I bought my used 190 bay the owner took me for test run and boat wouldnt plain and we had to stand forward to plain out. He was quite embarrassed.
We found out when we took the boat out at the ramp--the two plugs were taken out of the boat. They are hard to see on the 190 but wont sink without them. We were motoring around for 20 minutes starting and stopping without sinking,
Check and ensure that your two plugs underneath are in and the plugs are in your two bow storage areas. If your plugs are in-lossen them and see if hull is holding water, I have since had three adults and two teens on my boat and plained fine and ran around 35 with Yamaha 90 two stroke.
