Thinking

My Grandpa is about to buy a 2005 190 Bay with the following:

Bimini Top
Bow Rail
Coaming Bolsters
Swim Platform
Humminbird Matrix 97
ICOM IC-M302
Shakespeare Galaxy 8' Antenna

What do you think of this setup for fishing?

Depends on what/where your fishing. I think that mine suits me very well. I mostly fish freshwater, but it will also be perfect for ICW and nearshore. Also, what motor are you getting? I have a 150 XR6 and its almost too much. The bow rail will not allow you to put on a trolling motor, but thats only useful if your fishing freshwater or redfish/trout. If he wants a trolling motor, he may have to cut the rail. Good Luck and happy fishing.

It would help if we knew what type of fishing and where. Also, what is the price? Pricing seems to be in a tight range. But there are those occaisional boats that go well above the range.

Personally I don't like the bimini for fishing but it'll come off to get it out of the way. Also the swim ladder is only good if you plan to get wet, other wise it can get in the way when landing a big one.

I rod n' reel fish as well as dive so I find the bimini is great for shade when diveing or when the wife wants to join me. The swim ladder essential if you plan to dive, swim, ski, or get wet in any way. It is difficult and dangerous to board with out one.

This boat can fish freshwater and saltwater w/limitation.
The set you mentioned sound good, but depends on what your fishing for.

The bimini is great protection from the elements but restricts you ability for fish along gunnels of the boat. T-top allows more fish-able space but costs alot more and can't be easily removed.

Do you really need the bow rail? I have a tall bow rail to keep me from falling off the boat when I fish the kelp beds in small 1-2 swells and it clears my trolling motor.

The radio is good.

Don't know how good the fish finder is, maybe somebody here has one.
Ive got a Furuno (works good). Lowrance is also good.

GPS ???? Garmin has been good to me.

I have a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke. Its very quiet, better mpg, dependable and could reach top speed of 44 mph before T-top, trolling motor, leanpost, bait tank and batteries. Many lakes in Calif. are restricting 2- stokes due exhaust polution into the water.

Again it all depends on what your fishing and how hard ya like to fish.
Most of the guys here are serious bout fishing.

Like everyone else says, depends on what you're fishing for and where. I couldn't go boating in the summer with out a top in the southeast. That 8ft antenna will have to come down if the bimini goes up. If you're not going far offshore you may can get away with a 3 or 4ft antenna.

He really could use a GPS/Sounder. All electronics need to be Waterproof on this boat since it will be exposed on the center console. I go out in the gulf consistantly 30-50 miles offshore on 1-3' days and use the front fishing chair alot on reefs w/o a bow rail since the trolling motor wouldn't work with it in the way. Had the bimini with removable hardware but never removed it then moved up to a custom T-top with rocket launchers to get the reels up and away. The custom job was $500 less than stock. Would also recc leaning post with back rest since the cooler seat does a poor job keeping ice. Swim platform is really nice to have since it is really tough to get into this boat from the water. You can buy one onsale sometimes and just custom bend the rails to fit exactly for less than $90 vs $200+. That what many dealers have done too. The Bay 190 is a very versitle boat good in bays, rivers, lakes and moderate offshore since it rides high in the water and has a decent draft. Easy to customize any Triumph for whatever he likes.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. We are thinking of doing a little lake fishing, possibly river fishing up into Oregon, and mostly Ocean Fishing In the Santa Barbara Channel and the Channel Islands(ie)Anacapa, Santa Cruz. Thinking of a Yamaha or Mercury 115 4 Stroke. Dont want a Trolling Motor, so the Bow Rail will be just fine. We got quoted $22,692.50 by AA Marine in Vista, CA. That is with the Bimini Top, Bow Rail, Coaming Bolsters, Swim Platform, Humminbird Matrix 97 and a Standard Horizons Radio w/ Shakespeare Galaxy Antenna and Mount. This is all with installation. Haven't realized about the Antenna getting in the way, might get a little smaller(want dependable range) antenna or move the antenna off the Console. Also, to mhedrick; what is the speed that you get with the 150 XR6?

Leave some fish for the fishies!

With the right load and wind conditions, I can hit just over 50 mph. I havent really played with the prop so I dont know exactly what its capable of. I usually cruise at 3200 rpm which is between 30-35 depending on load and conditions.

You may be able to get a 2004 leftover for less - still new. Or buy used 2003 for something in the range of 13K to 15K.

Otherwise, I would second the 3' whip. Shakespere makes one - model# 5240-R

GPS/Sounder split-screen gives both navigational and fish-finding all in one unit. Saves space on the constrained CC of the 190 and wont fail if it gets wet. This is the 178iC, but I use the 168c Sounder (couldn't find that one online quickly)

Best of luck and I hope to hear from you more after the purchase (or before)
