Just upgraded to a 190 Bay
Well I was looking for at them for a while and decided to make the jump up from a 170cc to the 2007 190 Bay. It should be ready by mid February. We will be all ready for stripers in the Upper Chesapeake Bay in the spring.
I just wanted to say thanks for all of the good information I have found on the site. |

Chip:
Great choice on the 115 Suzuki... I purchased a 2007 190 Bay in July of 2006 with the same exact motor and have to say that I absolutly love it. More than pulls myself, wife two Kids and as well as our Chocolate Lab all around the upper and middle bay... I am sure we will see you on the water in the spring... Bill McCall... Boat name "Here Fishee Fishee!!!" |

Thanks
Thanks Bill,
I am pretty excited. I found out this weekend th build date is February 23rd and the boat should arrive up here (at the dealer) about March 5th. So hopefully things will be ready by Mid-March. Going from the 170cc I am hoping to be able to be more comfortable with my wife, two kids, and lab. How is the boat coming out of the hole? Does it take a while to get up on plane or is it pretty easy like my 170cc was? I go out fishing in the upper bay most weekends by myself and put in and take out by myself. I am having side bunks put on the trailer to make it a little easier to guide in. Have you found anything that you would differently with it since running most of the summer and fall? How did letter you boat by the way. I was thinking about this, but not sure if I am going to or not. Chip McCann |

Chip:
You have got to be chomping at the bit to get your new 190 Bay. I know we were... Kept counting the days... When we did finally got it we were having the severe floods in July coming down the Susquehanna so we could not use it for about two weeks. That really stunk... Sounds like the same scenario with you, Wife, 2 Kids and a Lab... The boat has ample room for all our us but the Lab seems not to want to stay aboard for long since she enjoys the water tooo much... The boat is great out of the hole. Up on plane in no time flat with the entire family aboard. I did ding up the stock Prop last year a bit and believe that I may upgrade to a new one in the spring. Not sure what to put on it yet. Looking for suggestions if anyone has any. Probably go with Stainless for the durability factor but not written in stone... I did not opt for the side bunks on the trailer and seem to have no problem putting the boat on all by myself. Half the time I just drive it right on if I can line it up properly... the only thing that I can see myself changing is the Fishing rod storage under the side gunwales. I hate having to feed the tip of the rod in and then the butt end. I will probably opt for something with foam and velcro or something like that. Not real sure. I have a local friend working on the design for the boat name. Since we use it for both Striper fishing as well as for Trotlineing Blue Crabs he is going to try to tie in both critters to the name of the boat. He is pretty talented so I am anxious to see how he does... Have to use the 3M Primer on the hull prior to applying the vinyl decals so they stick... I will post some pics when I get her done... Keep us posted as to the progress of the arrival of her. Look forward to seeing you on the bay. We normally put in in Northeast Maryland as well as Fort Armistead just below Baltimore. We have been allover the upper and middle part of the bay last year. Hope to get even further this year... Keep in touch... Bill McCall |

The wait is unbearable at times. But we have plenty to keep us busy so it is ok.
It's good to hear the boat gets up on plane quickly. What size prop are you running? And how is the boat on gas consumption. I already am having the rod holders changed. They are going to put side loaders that have a retractable strap built in. I mostly fly fish for stipers and don't really want to deal with broken rods. I put "Rod Savers" on the 170cc and they were ok until I got into really rough water. The rod butts would tend to fall out of place after a little bit. My son (8) wants to go crabbing this year. I haven't done yet so I think we will start out with some traps and see if he likes it first. If so, maybe we will move up to trotline next year. Also, I got a good deal on a Garmin 178C. It is a gps and finder combination. I also picked up an upper bay expansion card for it. I was using a Garmin 72 (handheld) and an Eagle 320 on the other boat. So the Garmin 72 I will use as a backup and for geocaching. y the way, I keep my boat in North East (in the yard at the Basket Factory) and put in at Anchor Marine. Since we go out so much, I just get a yearly pass at Anchor. It works out pretty well most of the time, but sometimes people putting in and out at the ramp are a little disorganized. Butch and his crew do a good job keeping people moving though. I would love to see pictures when you have some. Maybe it will inspire us to do something with ours. Chip McCann |

Rod Holders
Hi, Chip
Are you getting the same rod holders that Hooked on the Bay installed on my 190 Bay, they are working very well for me. I will try to take a picture of them and post for everyone to see. How did the GPS update procedure go? Thanks & Good Fishing, Capt. Karl |

Karl,
Wayne was going to put the same rod holders on my boat that you have. They definitely look to be that ticket. Thanks for showing them to me a few weeks ago. The update on the 178C went easily. The software version on the unit was 2.40 and the current version is 2.60. You can check you software version by going to the "Setup" tab on the unit and going down to "System Information". It should read: "Software Version 2.60". If you need to update it, I have a blank 32mb card and card reader you can borrow. It took about 5 minutes. Chip |
