Prop Advice

I have an '02 190 Bay with a Yamaha 115 4-stroke and I'm looking for a new prop to replace my dealer installed aluminum one. I mostly use the boat for fishing inland waters and near shore off the coast of NC. However, I do like to wakeboard too.

I currently have a 13 1/4 X 17 and I would like to move to a stainless steel. Anyone in this forum have any suggestions?

My 190 Bay is rigged with a Honda 130 with the same aluminum prop - 13.25X17.

I wouldn't buy a stainless prop. My boat was rear-ended while on the trailer by a Hyundai going about 10 mph. The young girl driving the car was okay, but my skeg opened her hood up like a can opener. The prop had two blades bent.

The next morning, I went to my dealer and got another prop. Put the boat in the water - no vibration - no problems whatsoever. But I can tell you that if that prop was stainless, then I would've been out of commission until her insurance paid for a new lower unit. A stainless prop would've transferred the impact to the outboard and gearbox rather than giving-in like the aluminum. Same things goes for hitting bottom while in the water.

Also, I've heard from others performance gains on the smaller CC's is not that significant with SS.

My OB is a Honda 130 also has the 13.25X17. That pitch is good for trolling slow at idle. Top speed has been about 42mph in light chop. A bigger prop would be faster, but then my trolling speed would be too high.

Hope I've helped.

Try one of these till you find the right pitch for your combo OR like I do, and just leave it on as my main prop since I am in skinny water all the time
