Need 190 Bay Info

Looking to purchase 190 Bay in middle of April.

Plan to fish Texas bays and less than 15 miles offshore in the Gulf.

Have some questions -

How dry is the ride?

How much power should choose in a 4-stroke?

Trolling motor or no trolling motor?

Input will be greatly appreciated.

I run out to 15 mi from Panama City in the FL panhandle with full load in mine, It does well in seas 2-4 ft and is resonable dry for a dive boat. The 115 yami & 13 x 19 x 3 stainless prop. is just about right for power, considering tow weight and all. when seas get to 4 ft + you will have to slow down to displacement speed for sure. I can stay on plane when the glass boats can't and I belive the ride is softer than some of the 21 - 23 ft glass boats I've been on.

helpful hints

Hey,

I just purchased my used 2002 190 Bay this past weekend. I plan to fish the Texas Gulf and Bays as well. The boat is like new since it only had 16 hours on it. The previous owner put it on a lake and never was able to use it. I have a 115 Suzuki with a stainless prop and it provides more than enough speed for me. I took her up to 45-47 and backed her down to around 37. I plan to add a trolling motor within a few weeks, I recommend you do the same, I can see where one will be needed for use on lakes as well as the bays.

Man, you'll love this boat for what you wanna do. I fish river, bay and offshore if it is pretty flat as far as 35nm in the Gulf. The casting deck is nice and two can easily fish on this boat comfortably....three if one is at the helm. doubles as a family friendly lake, light ski boat/knee boarding.

I have continuously upgraded my Bay 190. Started off with a Zuke 140 with ss prop due to all the oyster beds etc around Dauphin Island. Initially went with a bimini top but had a custom T-top made and this opened up alot of new storage options with 2 T-bags and electronics box. I use a MinnKota 101 saltwater trolling motor with removable mount.....works the rivers and inlets with no problems and with 3 batteries, I have never ran out of juice so it is also an emergency "kicker" just in case.

Fished alot, mostly saltwater trolling, bottom reefs, inlets for bull reds, specks in the bay. Flyfishing is fine as that is the initial reason I bought the 190 Bay and started tying flies this week after a long sebatical from flyfishing.

Just enough room for the things you need....maybe a few you don't.

Whatever you add electronically, make sure it is waterproof. The 190 Bay is fairly dry but bay chop and a strong breeze with get you...as well as those unexpected summer thunderboomers!

Molar

Hey Molar how is Dauphin Island doing since Ivan.
I was down there in 04 with that tbot. I really liked it and that little motel we all stayed at was neat. I would like to get back down there sometime.

Well, seems it is getting back up to speed over there as they have continually had the Fishing Rodeo with the hurricaines. There are two Dauphin Islands now. The West end (@50% of the island) was privately owned and undeveloped and is now cut off from the mainland so last I heard they wanted to donate the land to the state for a wilderness sanctuary etc.

I am sure that old motel is still there if developers haven't turned it into condo's yet. It has weathered storms since the 1950's or so. I'll swing by there this summer and see what's rebuilt but most on the backside survived...beach front moved in about 100', right up under some houses.
