New trolling motor

First,

Has anyone had an electrolisis(spelling) problem with their trolling motor. If so how did you solve it?? My paint is flaking off of my Minn Kota Rip Tide.

The wife has said ok to by a new one. On that side of things I am considering a Minn Kota Riptide with auto pilot. Does anyone have one, or have fished one.

Thanks for the help!!

Mark

Do you have a zinc anode? Think newer Minn Kota's have. If so, make sure it doesn't have any oil,etc covering it that would impede it's corrosion.....or the metal on the foot will begin to be the anode and corrode and make the paint fall off. Grounding could also cause a problem if wiring has gone bad. I'll check mine, 2001 101 Rip Tide, and see what it has, but no problems corroding so far.

Mark,
Yes the newer ones have the zinc anode mounted behind the prop and I have both the Auto Pilot and Co-Pilot systems on mine and grin like a "Goat Eating Nails" when I use it and many times, it beats breaking out the old push pole for sure

Works great in concert with the Power Pole for boat control on the flats and Oyster Beds...

Installed the minnkota riptide 24v w/ co-pilot.
Love it!!!

Just used it last week and out-fished a 40ft vessel anchored nexted to me.
They tried to achor on a local rock structure but the scope of the anchor line put them passed the rock.

The wind was blowing from the NW, so I pointed the bow NW, set the autopilot to the wind, and controled my position over the structure.
It was nice fishing off the stern w/o anchoring.
I just adjusted the speed of the trolling motor on my wrist!!

The guys on the other boat could'nt understand why I was gettin hooked-up.

The auto-pilot w/ co-pilot is perfect for trolling lakes or fishing structure.
Good luck.

Thumbs up Trolling Motor

I have the MK RT 65AP with co-pilot on my '03 190Bay. I would definitely recommend I love this thing. I did install on a self installed factory mount which added to the cost but again it is a great fit.
