Unhappy Hull thickness

Does anyone know just how thick the hull of a 190 Bay is? I just discovered a gash, origin unknown, just below the water line of mine. It appears to be about 1/8" deep and two inches long. The material is curled back from the boat almost as if someone took a beer can opener and gouged out a piece. I'm going to have the marina weld it but it made me wonder. I'm also convinced that a fiberglass boat would have been more severely damaged.

Not to worry, you've got plenty of hull left. A 1/8" deep gash is nothing to frett over...it will not affect your performance one bit. Unless you are worried about the cosmetic appearance, I would not even have it repaired. Just adds character to an already tough boat. Fiberglass would be another story altogether. The phrase "cha-ching" comes to mind.

Thanks for the reassurance. I think the marina could probably weld the "finger" right back onto the hull. It's sort of like a dent in a fender, unsightly. I still would love to know how thick the hull is.

Thanks again for the reply.

yes not to worry, I have unfortunately ran into my fence twice backing into my skinny driveway, and have a deeper and wider guage and no worries yet. still mad at myself...but oh well.

I am sure it varies from place to place, but, at the kissoffs where i had thru hull drains installed in my floor boxes it was close to 3/8 to 1/2 inch thick. That is just the kiss off area the thinest part between the water and the inside of the bilge, or in this case floor boxes.

I added a swim platform myself on the stern, and after drilling the pilot holes it looks to be over 1" think on the transom.

check out rtburns' post in this forum about his damaged 190bay. His eye was pulled out and with the picture he submitted of the mess he is dealing with you can clearly see the thickness of the hull
