I have a 2 stroke 90 HP Mercury on a 2002 190 bay. Top speed with a normal load is about 38MPH on the GPS. The boat planes quickly and travels in pretty shallow water. I bought the boat used and I'm satisfied with the boat's performance, but if I would have bought new, I would have opted for a little more HP. I use my boat mainly for inshore saltwater fishing.

I don't know how the etec compares to the Mercury, but I have been told that the 2 stroke Mercury is a very strong 90 HP engine.
