Welcome aboard Mobydoc1! Congratulations on the 190 Bay. I would think the 115 would be a better fit than the 90.

mobydoc1, What top speed do you get with that setup?

I am getting the boat with the same, but I was told with 2 people I could expect a top speed around 35mph.

Even more important what kind of RPM's are you getting with the engine at WOT? Could be a simple prop change and a BMS lower unit cavitation plate install and you are back in business again

I also think that many forget about loading... As a guy who runs around in a foot of water a lot, I try and keep the boat (mostly fuel) as light and as balanced for and aft with it loading as possible. This way the hull does not draw as much water

Check this out. Its from the performance bulletins on yamaha website. I know its not a 190 bay but the weight and size are almost identical. That one got a top speed 36mph with the prop shown.

No, I have a Honda 150 VTEC with a few tweaks to the lower unit and some other areas along with a 3 bladed SS prop so I can't compare yours to mine really, but the important part and only constant all engines have is what are you getting RPM wise at WOT?

Most engines are looking to run in the 5500 to 6500 range at WOT (best to check with your manual) and if you are not getting such, than you have too much pitch and need to back it off some.

The BMS cavitation plate though will really help you get launched as well as provide some extra stern lift to help offset the lack of HP with the 90. Just remember that after installing the BMS plate you will have to re-learn your engine trim habits again so you do not add any extra drag on the top end by adding more engine trim than what is really needed
