Never had a problem with mine and yes, I would lay the top down and secure it with the straps. I could trap mine under the motor as it was tilted up into the splashwell. Wind will eventually start to fray some fabric so try to keep it from "flapping" in the wind.
On the boat, it should be adjusted taught and I used removable mounts to get it out of the weather in the winter. You might consider adding larger and longer screws and seal them in with elastomeric. |
