Scuppers that...WORK

Here may be one of the most complicated engineering design delimas of all time, a scupper that lets water out but will not let water in. Wow, now that the cat's out of the bag, I would pay dearly for two, so as to no longer have water getting into my Bay 190 bilge. Anyone come up with a superior scupper?

almost all my "bilge water " on my 01 logic 186 came from the splash well area not being sealed well. i could drop the access cover and see water running in the bilge . especially seal the 2 seams on the edge of the jump seats up 2 inches or more.
i used to get so much water in the boat from waves over the bow that i actually popped open the accessplate in the floor and let the bilge pump take out the deck water. heck i even installed a second bilge pump and had it plumbed to the splash well ,so i would know i was getting the extra water beyond what the factory pump was capible of.
yep, IMO i fished water beyond the capability of the 186 to handle.
that's why i have a 210cc and want the 230cc if it isnt priced beyond my means.
and yes at anchor ,i take water over the bow in the 210cc where the big drum are.

Done it all, will have to re-seal those seams every year so far. Other than water over the bow or spray, the only water coming in, as far as I can tell, is the scuppers. Had one incedent which the bilge clogged and though I was going to loose the boat....so I really don't want to rely on the bilge much either. There has got to be a $20 HomeDepot fix or a functional replacement scupper. Someone developed Gore-Tex right? Water out not in.....what could be the equivalent for scuppers?

the only solution i think is for triumph to modify the mold to raise the floor 1 inch higher than it is now. as to all us old boaters , esp. those with heavy 4 strokes is to plug em off and let the bilge take the water off the deck. i spent 3 years and i never figured out a way to prevent the intrusion 'cept to plug 'em off.
not the answer you wanted to hear but , igave up and moved up to the 210cc.

I have played w/ marine check valves that I bought at Boat U.S, about a year ago
.
They are made of black plastic exterior w/ a removeable check valve.
The valve allows water to flow (one direction only), out the scupper when the boat is traveling.

When I wash the boat down, I just remove the enternal valve to allow the water to flow freely out the scupper.

I had posted pic on the old site (logic-triumph boat owners).

Im not sure how to attach jpeg.s on this forum.

Let me know if your interested. I can e-mail the jpeg.s

Hi foul-hooked. I uploaded a new Photo Gallery software package last night. If you go to www.triumphowners.org and select Photo Gallery or Modifications you'll be linked to the site where you can easily upload any image. There is an upload button in the upper right corner. If you are logged into the forum then you'll be online there too.

I'm working now on creating a menu header for each page that will allow us all to easily navigate from one section of the site to another. Sorry for the delay in implementing this. I'm not a programmer and don't play one on TV, so it is taking awhile to figure out all this code!

Foul-Hooked, How are you installing the Non-return valves from Whale? I see you have the 3/4" size, did you have to take the scupper assembly out and Rule this in or did the 3/4" size fit within the old scupper housing? Would you rec the larger size for more rapid water evacuation?
This looks promising.

I cut-off both ends of the check valve where a hose would nomally fit. This shortens the overall length, allowing it to fit neatly into the scupper tube. (Arrow on the check valve must be postioned outward)

Then I enlarged the scupper hole inside the boat, just enough to fit the check valve from the inside the boat. I seal around the edges w/ elastomeric.

When the boat is moving, the water moving pass the scupper creates a vacuum. The check valve opens, allowing water to flow out.

When the boat is seating in the water, the check valve is closed. Water pressure outside the boat tends to close the check valve.
You can test it by blowing into end of the valve before installing it.

When washing the deck at home, I insert a small section of plastic hose into the check valve. This forces the valve open w/o damaging it.

Its the only solution I have found that works fairly well.
I'll post more pics.

The size valve I choose is slightly larger then the scupper hole inside the boat.
The next valve size is 1" and the scupper hole would have to be enlarged to more than 1.5".

If you enlarge the scupper hole too much, you will expose the inner foam which could allow water into the inner hull. BAD thing

The 3/4 valve fits well and is sufficient to remove water from the deck.

Run to Wal-Mart and pick up a bag (real cheap) of those yellow foam pratice golf balls. They will plug up pretty much any drain on either the 190 or 210 yet are easy to remove when cleaning up afterwards.

I used them to plug up the mega-hold (just remember to pull them out before it rains if setting on a trailer) and live well drains on the 210. I now use the same fix for both the live well and deck drains on my 190. They work great!
