Pedestal seat & drainage questions

I did a search on both of these, but could not find these two particular issues addressed. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

I need to replace the metal plate under the bow pedestal seat. I have separated the seat from the plate/pedestal assembly, but cannot figure out how to remove the plate. It swivels on the pedestal so it does not appear to screw into it. I was expecting to see a bolt holding it on when I removed the seat, but there is not one. Any suggestions?

The other issue is drainage, both the deck and the splash well. The deck scuppers are the retro fit straight out the back. But, they appear to be set 1/2 - 3/4" too high, and do not drain completely. On the starboard side, this problem is compounded by a depression in the deck between the scupper and the gunnel, which accumulates water. Same for the splash well, they are set to high and do not drain completely. Anyone else have this issue on their 190 and have any solutions?

Again, thanks for the help!

Richard

Mine are new mods thru transom and it really is a mute point. A couple of cups of water is all as I thought the same thing at first then noticed it wasn't actually a real water intrusion issue and drains better than the side scuppers with less water back and forth.

The metal plate is just that. @6 or 8 bolts and sealed with Rule. Just take the bolts out and pry it up, strip the paint off and spray with clear coat. I just purchased a product called "Rust Bullet" and comes standard silver and a slightly weaker black. It will bond best to slightly rusted or oxidized metals and a pint will go a long ways and stain your hands for a week. Has a guarantee for underwater applications too, so I might be using it soon on my trolling motor and that front plate which seems to oxidize easily.

Good luck , Molar

Thanks Molar...I finally got the plate to separate from the post. It took a few whacks with a hammer and then standing on the plate and giving a good pull on the post. The problem now is what appears to be a hard plastic or rubber bushing on the spindle of the plate. This is what locks the seat in place. I have tried to get it off to no avail. Any suggestions, or do I need to order this whole assembly? The plate is in bad shape and bent, so I want to replace it. I am attaching a couple of pics.

As far as the drainage issue, I forgot to mention that this is occurring when it on the trailer. Even with the jack fully extended it does not drain. I have to mop up the water with towels. If it not covered and it rains, the water sits and evaporates leaving stained areas. It just seems the drains were installed too high. I am considering installing a new jack to get more elevation. I can't get blocks under it as there is just enough clearance to swivel it to the down position. Any thoughts?

OK, that one is a bit different than mine. I have a 2002 Bay and it is a simple aluminum plate with a female inserion area that accepts the post of the seat and has a push button "snap in" button. I'll look for pics but it is a different design, sorry.

I checked with the dealer here in town and it all one piece. I need to call him back as I did not have my hull number at work. I also sent an email to Merritt Marine to see if they have one.

I continue to find places on the boat that hold water. Took our first fishing trip yesterday and discovered all 6 rodholders on the console were full of water, the baitwell had a few inches in it, and the forward battery box as well and the mounting hole for the bow seat. And after washing and scrubbing it down yesterday I still can't get all the water out. Guess I need to get in there with some towels and mop it out. I just cannot believe this thing was designed without adequate drains!

This boat retains so much water I may name it PMS

  • Console rod holders holding water is normal and no way to drill drain holes as I hear it without water soaking into the inner hull foam (bummer) so we all just use a turkey baster or show vac to pull it back out.
  • The bait well is below the water line of the boat and the drain is not on the bottom of it either. I don't use mine so I try and keep it dry and use a yellow sponge practice golf ball to plug up the intake at the stern. Keeps that much less water out of the hull and that much less draft, but if needed I can just reach down and pull the sponge ball back out.
  • I modified the battery box by having the metal drain fitting ground down to the surface level of the box floor (poor design). Drains out much better now and retains no water.
