We bought our boat

We found a used 2003 Triumph 190 Bay w/ a Yamaha 4S 115 Horsepower. Comes with Bimini Top, Bow Seat, Bow Cushion, Raw Water Washdown, Cheap Humminbird, Hydraulic Steering, Swim Step, Boat Cover, Engine Cover. The Guy offered $17,700 and took our offer of $16,850. The Accessories all total at $3,100. The Engine has 160 Hr. What do you guys (and gals) think about this. The Engine has been sitting since August and started in 1-2 sec. Also, how long can you get out of today’s 4 Strokes? Also the boat has nothing but dirt and Algae from So. Cals. Storms. What is the best way to get these hard spots off? I've heard of using bleach (for hard spots) and car wash soap (for easy spots). Just wanted a second Opinion. Email me at mtblife@iwon.com. That $6,000+ will buy extra electronics, parts and fishing gear. We are taking delivery Thursday.

Sincerely,
Sean Ford

Congrats!

I think 160 hours is good. I wouldn't want a 2003 motor with less hours as that would mean that it sat too much. As far as life-span, mechanics tell me that my Honda 4S will go for 1,500 hours or ten years. But that is all subject to care and how much she gets used. Sea Tow puts over 1,000 hours on motors in a single season. Some old nasty 2S motors from the 80's are still on the water and God only knows what kind of hours they got on em'.

Bimini tops are good with kids - lots of shade. T-Tops don't provide enough shade, but are good for mounting stuff.

Boat cover  that'll save you some big bucks right there.

Use undiluted Simple Green on your initial cleanup. Then anything that won't come off you can use something heavier on. But I've been able to get everything off with Simple Green. It is supposed to be non-toxic, but undiluted it will kill grass. Other guys on this board have used power washers.

Overall, I think you got a fair price. Trust me, the equipment alone would've eaten you alive at retail. Boats are holes in the water that you throw money into. But I love doing it.

Yet again, we changed our mind. We thought about the boat and are NOT buying it. The guy didn't ever clean the boat, the engine wasn't the best cosmetically... and this means it wasn't taken care of mechanically. Then the guy didn't have many receipts. We made him an offer and he accepted it and then 4 days later we call him stating that we are canceling the verbal deal. He then gets all mad and says yeah right then hangs up the phone. He then calls later and says, "We had a deal. Rather it was on paper or verbally, you are not an honest man. You’re going to have to deal with this. It's just like me saying I wont sell you the boat because someone offered me $100 more. Your just not an honest man." These were his exact words. Is it me or is this guy just a real a$$hole? Also he says the boat has been used 8 times and the engine has 160 hours on it and says the prop is new and then later says he ran into something and replaced the prop. This guy is full of BS.

Hate it for you but as always, "buyer beware". Sounds like some things didn't add up but now you are a seasoned boat shopper so "seller beware"! Without receipts and even then, there is no way to really know how well a motor has been taken care but like you experienced, until money has been exchanged, you can always walk away. And remimber, there are thousands of boats out there for sale, you'll find a better one for less.....actually there is a 2001 with a honda with only 50 hrs run time for sale on this site. You may have to take a fishing vacation to go get it.
Happy Huntin' and remimber to always check with the FACTORY about warranties prior to purchase.

Yeah, we are thinking about buying a new 190 Bay from AA Marine. We want 2003 and newer and instead of looking like we have the past 2 years, just buy it new. Also, the grunion runs are statrting soon. Look at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/mrd/gruschd.html for additional information.

Congratulations on your new boat. Please post some pictures when you get her home.

I do not see your dealer listed on the "Links" page. Would you please ask them to e-mail Randy the site administrator so they can be listed?
