You know, I am not an engineer, but it seems to me that the hull should be thicker right there... And how can you have the "Worlds Strongest Boat" (and man that is a big claim) and *not* make that area thicker, *and* have a stainless plate behind it.... |

Hull eye pulled out of 2002 190 Bay
The boat sits on a Magnum trailer (very popular and well made in our area). This is the original hole. This is the way I found it after it setup all winter. Looks pretty bad. The dealer was supplied a SS backing and that pulled through as well. Then the dealer was told to weld another piece of SS on the the bracket of the one supplied by Triumph and it pulled through as well. That is the reason for my concern. I have called the support people at Triumph Boats (Brian) and have asked to update me as to what the third repair will entail. Apparently there is another bracket that is being sent to the dealer and more Ropolean material to try that. I explained to Brian that I am worried that if this fails on a steep ramp I could be left with the boat failing off the trailer then have to deal with getting someone to pick the boat up and place it back on the trailer by myself. This would be a real bummer. Anyway if there are anymore suggestions as to how to approach this with Triumph or any advice I could use it as I want to take my boat out but it does not appear I will get mine back anytime soon.

I forwarded this thread to the folks at Triumph and they responded that they had not seen this happen before. They want to get the boat to the factory to make sure it is taken care of correctly. The trailer setup is the suspect but they won't know for sure till they get the boat. You should hear from them soon if not already.

Not sure that they have not seen this before as the dealer who was helping me has seen 2 do this and he was able to fix them with no problem. The Trailer is the trailer that the boat was sitting on when I made the purchase. It also worked for 4 years as I have had the boat for that long. I have pulled the boat in and out in some rough water and never worried about this.
I did receive a call from Triumph today and they are going to ship my boat the the NC factory and see if it is repairable. Not sure what will happen if they can not repair the boat. This process seems to put allot of pressure on the consumer when all I wanted was to purchase a nice boat and when I have a problem it to be dealt with in a timely manner. Now it seems like I am at the mercy of factors I can not control. I just hope this goes smoothly with all the things I have to do to get to this point. Thanks everyone for the advice. |

You mean, you left the boat all winter and when you first saw the boat this spring, still sitting on the trailer, unmoved from storage, etc...... BAM!! There is a hole in your bow where the eye was? And I take it the eye was still clipped with the plastic and backing to the winch strap?
I just need clarification as this is so strange to this forum and I also have a 2002 Bay 190 and would like learn any preventive medicine. I always release all tension off my transom straps and two eye straps. I have also once winched the boat on with it about half off the trailer with no ill effects that are noticable. Sounds like Triumph is taking over and you should feel more comfortable as they have always treated me well and in a timely manner when the local dealer couldn't do a job adequately. |

Yes , that is correct. When I went up to my property on the lake where the boat was stored I noticed the big hole where the hull eye was. The hull eye was still attached to the winch and the plastic was still attached to the eye. Not sure how it happened since I went up there many times and never noticed the hole until I was preparing to take it out.
