I'm not really sure why I called them gray, they aren't as bright of a white as the rest of the boat I guess. It looks like to me like the base of the panel doesn't sit down tight (small gap) so the lip of the panel has to hold all the weight. I plan to stop by the dealer on Thursday, but as long as the panel is designed the same, I forsee the same thing happening. I have been thinking about adding some sort of plastic "shim" under it, so the lip doesn't have to bend as far when my chubby self steps on it. Of course I'll have to seal on both sides of it.
Doesn't yours (beradon) have holes through from the voids to the bilge area? ![]() |

Floor Panels
My floorpanels are as white as the rest of the boat and I'm convinced they have a batch of bad ones. If they were cracking right around the countersink I would accept the "screws too tight" theory but mine have cracked where the overlap meets the thicker material. There are so many super strong plastics available these days that the cracking should not be happening. I brought my boat back to the dealer today and they are going to have the triumph Rep take a look at it. As far as the water collecting in the hull, I don't know if mine has drains or not. I went by the dealership when they were starting the repair and i saw a large puddle under the boat-Maybe the drains were clogged? Not sure.
Ya know, if that void under the panels was foamed so as to support the panel this cracking problem would cease. Hopefully Triumph has come up with a permanent fix for them. |

i HAVE FOUND IN THE PAST THAT ANY USE OF FOAM AS A VOID FILLER TENDED TO BECOME A LARGE CORK ONCE ANY WATER GOT INSIDE AND THEN PUT EVEN MORE PRESSURE TO CAUSE THE STARBOARD TO LEAK/FILL/FLOAT MORE FOAM AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE THE STARBOARD TO BREAKAWAY FROM THE SCREWS AND THE WHOLE BOARD TO FAIL. AND YES THERE WILL BE WATER INTRUSION ---IT IS JUST THE NATURE OF THE ROPOLENE EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION AND THE "FLEX" THAT GIVES THESE BOATS SUCH A GREAT RIDE. PUT A SMALL INSPECTION PLATE THERE THAT YOU CAN UNSCREW AND VACUUM ANY WATER OUT

I agree with my "neighbor" from Greenville (Illogical), foam filling would probably not solve the problem, and since I had a minimal amount of water in the area underneath, and there is about a 1 inch drain hole, it is more of the type of thing "that shouldn't happen" as opposed to a major issue... for me at least. The biggest thing is that my Triumph finds me some fish
, keeps me above water and gets me back to the dock. |

Actually swung by the Sport Shop myself yesterday. Also stopped at the dealer, who took the hull number nad is ordering me new floor panels and trailer LED. He didn't say he had seen it before, but didn't seem surprised when I showed him either. As for the fishing, some Blues and Spanish out there, but I spent most of the day exploring new territory, with limited luck. Will have fish for lunch today though.

Sealed the "banana" boards
Early this summer, I found that when my wife and I were tying up to a dock, adjusting fenders, etc. with both of us on one side, water backed up through the "ping pong ball" scuppers into the cockpit. After some time passed, most of it went somewhere. I guessed most went back out the scupper drains when we left the boat and it leveled. However, I wanted to see if any went below the "banana boards" and just what was down there, anyway.
Upon removing the boards, I discovered the black gasketing was messed up and allowed water into the semi-triangular space under the boards. The water was standing there because drain holes to the bilge were clogged. To fix this problem "once and for all" I cleaned up all the black mess and re- installed the boards using the Rule Elastomeric adhesive and added an additional hold down screw between each existing pair. Someone one on one of these threads suggested the extra screw. The combination of the extra screws and the adhesive undoubtedly has reduced the stress level at the original fastening points. (No cracks yet) In addition, because I always like to know what's under there, I added a round, 1/4 turn access plates to the back of each board. With the plate open, I can see inside and easily see and reach the drain holes. |
