Question Charging Problem?

After not using my new boat for a week I found the battery was dead. I charged it over night with a high quality charger. I noticed last week and also today that while underway the volt meter is showing 16V. That seems very high. Is it possible the voltage regulator on the Yamaha is bad?

Chances are that the battery is lacking water and not giving a full charge indication to the regulator. Try it with a fresh battery that's fully charged. If you still have a high voltage, your regulator is bad. Testing it is dependant on the year, make and model. 16 volts is too high.

Also, to have a battery last longer and perform better, I would suggest charging after every use. Never put your batteries to bed if not fully charged. Also, if a week or so between use, put the charger on again the night before you go out.

Another idea, always have more than one battery on board that is charged and ready to go.

No juice means no go. A bad thing when not at home or at the dock.

If that's the case, it's a no brainer. Take it back to the dealer for warranty repairs before they find some thing to deny the repair. You paid good money and have a right to a properly working product. I'm sure the dealer will take care of it.

I'm with Mud Runner. Have the dealer take a look at it. It's all covered. It sounds like something is drawing power as well if your battery dies after 1 week.

Problem is that no dealer within several hundred miles had a 2007 with a T-top so I'll need to find a dealer locally who will step up and help me out.

In fact I talked to Ace on the phone and would have given him the business if he had a T-top with the right options.

Wasn't me. I'm with a majority of the guys here. I boat and fish as much as possible on my free time. I don't work at the dealership.

I just bought one from Stafford Marine.

It shouldn't matter if you didn't purchase the boat from your local dealer. If it's a warranty issue, any Triumph/Yamaha dealer should take care of it.

Where is Forest, VA?

Problem being that the nearest Triumph dealer is 2 hours away. I hope there's a Yammie dealer at Smith Mountain Lake. I'm just south of Lynchburg.
