See this picture for the inner hull drain install

http://www.triumphowners.net/photos/...to/641/cat/506

As for the plate, such devices are sold by some OEM's to address such issues

http://www.honda-marine.com/accessories.aspx#

But not all engines or hulls (pontoons and maybe some cat hulls) would not need one thus, no need to re-engineer every engine's lower unit for such.

Some OEM's (Yamaha and Honda) are also now starting to re-design for install, lower units for higher speeds (another BMS knock off) like mine now has, but that does not mean that all boats would need that upgrade either

So let us know how you make out for sure

BMS stab plate modification

Thanks Putershark-I'm going to look into the 3rd hull drain. I Just finished taking about 12 square inches off of the stab plate. Sawzalled thru it, hit it with a grinder and finished it off with a belt sander. Its still considerably larger than the factory stabilizer so I think I may have reached a happy medium. 2 minutes on the water and I'll know for sure. I have to get it back to the dealer sometime this week to replace a cracked floor panel (the 3rd) so I may not get out until the weekend. As soon as I test it, I'll report back. Thanks for everyone's help!

Most welcome,
And here is the thread that has link to the various OEM performace guides so you can compare your set up to some of the units tested and I think that Yamaha had the best data on the 190 of the bunch

BMS stab plate modification

Well I took the boat out today and the results were about the same. Removing 12 square inches didn't make a noticeable difference. It seemed to plow a little less but I still can't get the bow up where it belongs at WOT. Before I go out again on Friday I'm going to take it off and hopefully it will run like before. Actually the main reason I put it on in the first place was to improve the steering and to get up on plane at slower speeds. I'll have a sitrep Friday.

I have another theory on this, so when you get a chance please post or send me a few pictures of your engine (stern on and some side views) so I can see how it is mounted to the transom

Thanks much!

BMS stabplate

Putershark, the stabplate problem is solved-I removed it and the plowing stopped and I got my 3-4 mph back. I don't know if it is weight displacement or what but my 190 just runs better without it. Fortunately It was a simple fix.
Unfortunately Sunday, the boat developed some new problems. Another floor panel is starting to crack-this is the 4th one. I think Triumph manufactured (or bought)a bad batch of them. Problem # 2 was with the engine, a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke-The engine "trimmed itself" to the up position and would not come down. I had to disconnect the battery to stop the hydraulic motor. I was getting ready to beach it on Picnic Island (near Pine Island) when it went up and the area was crowded with boats. When it wouldn't go down I immediately dropped my "lunch" anchor( a 4 lb danforth) and of course it wouldn't grab so I dropped my 8 pounder but a couple seconds later I "floated" into a moored Sailboat. The owner of the Sailboat was on the beach and watched the whole episode but was real nice about it. His boat is only 3 months old and looked to be about 32' long. Probably in the 200K range-Fortunately no damage to either boat. After about 1/2 hour I remembered how to drop the engine & I loosened the screw and down she went. I did it in about 5' of water which wasn't much fun because there are sharks there. I've never caught one over 30" but I'm sure there are bigger one around. The next problem was really strange-My fuel line ripped right at the barb on the fuel pump. My best guess is that I did it removing and reinstalling the cowling, but I'm not sure. I "limped" back to the dock with the cowling off and a fine mist of gas spraying out of the engine. All in all, a bad day on the water but luckily we made it back safely and the boat is at the shop getting repaired. The mechanic thinks water got into one of the switches that controls the trim/tilt and caused it to develop a mind of its own. If I had been fishing near a low bridge I could have very easily drifted under it and tore my T-Top off. Another things to be concerned about and completely unavoidable. It could happen to any of us.

Glad to hear you are safe and sound after such an adventure and let me know how you make out with the repairs to the Yamaha
