unless you are comfortable with the idea, paradigm, whatever you want to call it that it is ok and normal for the boat to take on water into the inner hull, then I suggest another line of boats. Alot of guys that don't think this is a "big" issue are probably good "tinkerers" --like to work on the boat etc.

Personally I don't. Had I known my 2002 190 bay was going to need an inner hull drain before I bought it, I would have went with something different--probably welded aluminum. Now that I have the boat, with an inner hull drain, plus bad looking warranty weld work, I am stuck---held hostage--I can never get the true value out of this rig if I were to try and sell it.

this is reality--If you want a rig that is truly "robust" then you need to look real hard at all of the posts on this website. It may be that the brand new triumphs have all of the bugs worked out--I hope they do.

The 2002's are notoriuos for problems, so my issues may be isolated to that year---and I hope that is the case.

Baycoastal, The inner hull drain is not necessary on every boat. It only becomes an issue when there are points of entry to the inner hull that are not sealed well. The drain is a precaution or a way to let the water out, that's all. And folks we're talking about 'drips' not 'gushes'. If you have "bad looking warranty weld work" then you should demand that the dealer or Triumph (whomever did the work) make it right. What was welded that looks so bad? Welding is not necessary with the inner hull drain. No one is holding you hostage except your own negative thinking. If you don't like your boat, sell it. If you like it but somethings not right, fix it. It is that simple. Or am I missing something? If you have a house that you want to sell chances are you're going to get a better price for it if you fix it up before putting it on the market. Same thing applies with your boat.

I contacted Triumph Service Manager (at the factory) and he confirmed that Triumph do not recommend fitting the additional drains.... he did say though, if water does manage to get in to the cavity in between the inner and outer skin (where the foam is) it is generally caused by a crack or, faulty workmanship where "after-market" accessories have been fitted. Stands to reason i think? I think i am on the right track? Cheers.

Bullets, Thank you for confirming what I've been trying to say. IF water gets into the inner hull it is because of a crack or an add-on to the boat that penetrated the inner hull and was not properly sealed with Rule Elastomeric. I posted last week an official announcement by Triumph regarding inner hull drains (Inner Hull Drains...the official word from Triumph). Their position is that the exterior hull drains are not necessary. If you suspect inner hull water the drains that the factory installs can be used to drain the water to the bilge. I personally decided to add the exterior drain to my 215 for convenience and just to be sure. When I pull the boat out of the water I unplug my bilge drain plug and then the exterior inner hull drain. When I'm ready to go back in the water I just plug them both back in. No worries.
