190 Bay Front Storage bulge & drain

I am looking for a Triumph 190 Bay and have found one a 2003 with a 115 Yamaha (47 hours on it). I am a little concerned about the low hours and have to wonder about the boats history...I know people purchase boats and end up not using them but...but this guy traded his Triumph in on a 22 foot Eastern...wonder if he is planning on letting that sit as well?

So on to my question:

The boat is out of the water and on a trailer, as I stand in front and look at the boat I notice the hull bulges a little right where the drains are for the front storage lockers. Since the appear to bulge equally, I assume this is how they are…seems a bit odd but perhaps this is correct. Upon further inspection these holes do not seem “finished” Almost as if they were punched through the hull and not drilled (which would explain the bulge come to think of it). I find it very strange that the MFG would do it in this way again, no finish to the holes -- I would have expected some sort of collar or trim piece but this is not the case. I tried to determine if there was trim around these holes which have come off but I see no trace.

Surely this does not double as the aftermarket hull drain for the 190 discussed elsewhere? Does seem like a hack job however.

Any thoughts about the unfinished holes and or the apparent bulge(s)? Is this normal?

Thanks for you help

The Bulges that appear near the drain holes are hull deflection. My 2004 model has the exact same hull deflection. It was supposed to be corrected by a trailer support that was added after a warranty recall. It didn't seem to help, but the deflection has not been a problem of any kind. There are pics on this website of the 190 Bay hull deflection. I also have the 115 Yamaha and have had great service from boat & motor.

bhuck, perhaps I am wrong, but I think that the drain holes for the front storage compartment/fish boxes are neither punched nor drilled but are created as the hull is molded. I have a 2003 190 Bay with a 115 2 stroke Yamaha which has minor hull deflections at that location as well that I have used without incident for the past four seasons and am very satisfied with it. While some comment that the fit and finish of Triumphs do not match those of more expensive (much more) glass boats ( and this is true) the relative cost, durability, and ease of maintenance of the roplene hull more than makes up for this minor flaw, in my opinion.

excellent question---if you have not already done so, I reccommend you look thoroughly throughout this helpful website to see all of the "nuances" (sp?) of the triumph line. Ask alot of questions--you will get alot of responses.
