Vari pitch com prop

Ahoy, My 19 Bay w/115 Yamaha seems sluggish getting on plane. From what I have read it appears a 13x17 is the correct size however I am looking for input from anyone using a variable pitch com prop. I do not wish to go to SS since the boat is used only on rivers. Any help?

BigBoat,
I only have the 13x17 on my 190 and it only takes about 3 1/2 seconds to jump on plane. Make sure you are trimmed full down to start.

been running a Propulse vari pitch for several years now and I recommend it to anyone with varying fishing conditions. rivers and calm waters you can pitch it high and cruise or if you are going to be in rough inlets or high tidal flowing water you can turn down and get the rpms to punch thru the rough stuff. also , the blades will break off and can be replaced rather than having to be straightened as with s.s or alum.

BBNG,

I just purchased a Pro Pulse varible pitch prop. I will be testing it today on a reservoir. I believe like GGC does, it will be great to have the ability to change pitch for varying uses. Plus it has four blades so should bite in the turns a little better.

I run a 140 Suzuki on my 210 so can't give you apples to apples comparison but for the cost, I don't think you could go wrong with a Propulse.

More info to come as the testing progresses.

Thank you Codfish for your input. I am trying to obtain information specifically to the 190 Bay w/115 Yami. I will be very interested in your findings and could you include a benchmark?

BBNG,

Here is the info. My boat came with an aluminum 13x19P three blade prop. I could not reach full rpm at WOT so I had it repitched to 17P. That allowed the engine to reach full RPM at WOT and gave the boat a cruise speed of 23 mpg at 4500 RPM.

The new four blade 13 diameter Propulse gave me similar numbers and not surprisingly gave me the best numbers when set at 18P. At cruise RPM's of 4500 I was doing 25mph as measured by GPS. The top speed only increased one mph and I could get within 50 rpms of top limit at WOT.

Bottom line is the speed did what we would all expect. Up a little with more pitch. The biggest plus was the tendancy to cavitate in tight turns was less with the four blade.

My assessment is the same as GGC. This prop was worth the purchase price of $175 just for the ability to change pitch easily and to have the ability to change dinged or broken blades easily.
