Thinking of trading in 190 Bay

My 2002 is in for warranty repairs again. I am planning on either selling it when it is done or trading in for a new 190 Bay or 195 CC. The warranty issue is one which I doubt will ever be fully resolved. This is due to the cracking that has taken place--the repaired location of which I doupt will ever permanently "hold". And I doubt they will give me a new hull. So either I will have to bring the rig in every year for repair or get something new. I think they should provide a very good deal on a trade. Has anyone heard of exceptional deals on trades with boats that have had issues? "Factory mercy deals?"
Selling it after it is fixed and before the cracks occur again may be my only option--hating the fact that I may be passing the buck to someone else-----should not have to do this.

I feel for you BayC as I too have had the recurring crack issue with Triumph passing the buck to the dealer whom has yet to be able to repair for more than a couple of outings, multiple times. I have been referred to RoughWater Marine and they are really nice folks but unable to succeed in hull repairs as I am assured by Triumph they are qualified, trained and have the equipment and expertese.

In the past, J...B.... at Triumph cust serv. would take over, pick up the boat and fix it at the factory if the local dealer failed. Now it is seemingly more of a referral to somewhere else. Which ideally, would be fine if it was working out.

Sounds like the newer models have very few hull problems which is good for Triumph and owners as they have learned from mistakes and will make an increasingly great product. But what good is the "LIFETIME WARRANTY" if a warranty issue never comes to completion?

The strength of this site is the honesty of the members and the response of Triumph to warranty issues. I really think they are trying. In good faith, I am going in for my 4th hull crack repair soon at $2.90/gallon gas from Birmingham to Pascagoula, MS and back x 2 (1200 miles/22hrs)! (@$552 in fuel/auto exp) So, we all have money and time invested in "warranty repairs", the owner, Triumph and the dealer/repairer.

Factory fix the crack and sell with disclosure and transferrable warranty as buyer's option strongly encouraged. Or keep and live with it. Rule has repaired my crack longer than the dealer's $3,000 machine.

They could only get better with time, right? haha

I personally think it is a sin that they don't replace your hull. I love my 02 bay and have had no problems with it (knock on wood), yet I would be hating my baot and the company (Triumph Boats) if I were in your shoes.

As the owner of a 2002 190 which has not developed any cracks (yet), I would be interested in knowing how many viewers here have had problems with this particular model and vintage. Perhaps a poll showing percentages of cracks vs. intact hulls would be useful.

I have a 2003 190 Bay, but haven't had any problems with cracks. I've only had the boat a little over three months, and it had been kept in a garage prior to me buying it. I'm sorry to hear that anyone is having a problem with their boat, and hopefully I won't have the problems you're having. It makes me concerned hearing of the problems your having. Where were the cracks located that you're referring to? I would like to know so that I can keep an eye out for any problems similar to yours.

I think the crack issue is a cronic one with the 2002 models--not everyone with a 2002 has had problems, but the ones that do are pretty severe. On the 02's, the self bailing deck consisted of sc uppers at port and starbord. For some reason, cracking occurs on the inside of the boat surrounding the scuppers--kind of like a "half moon" shaped crack. Once this starts, it gets worst or grows. Triumph re-welds ropelene into the cracks, but eventually, the cracks come back--even after retrofitting the scuppers to the rear of the transom as installed in new 190 Bays.---at least mine still cracks. there are some pictures posted on page 5 I think. The post is titled "more cracks in the hull" I believe.

Mine are in the hull bow deformations both port and starboard. On My fourth recurrent crack, same place each side. High probability it's the MasterDealer's inability to do the job correctly. Triumph factory's last repair on starboard holding well for 2 years now.

Bryant at Triumph Warranty Service called yesterday, he is going to have the boat picked up next week and taken to the factory for inspection and repairs as needed.

With NC Angler's help, I believe I just save over a $500 run down to the Gulf Coast and back.

I thank you, NC, very, very much. I'll keep everyone posted on the process.
