Gas Cap Wrench

Hi,

Periodically the gas cap is extremely difficult to remove due to a buildup of pressure in the gas tank. There are two holes in the surface of the cap that look like they are there for some sort of wrench (turner?). Does anyone know of such a tool? There are a number of automobile gas cap wrenches on the market but from the pictures on the Internet they look like they wouldn't quite fit in the space surrounding the gas cap on my 190 Bay.

Any help would be appreciated.

MM

I contacted Triumph on this for you and they want you to call customer service. They will send you a wrench. You might check with your dealer to see if they have it but if not Triumph will send you one.

MM,
You can also pick up generic wrenches at almost all boating supply stores, Boaters World, etc. They are sometimes combined with a flat multi tool that includes a screwdriver or two.

In a pinch, you can use two phillips head screwdrivers, held in one hand and inserted into the holes on top of the gas cap. Use another screwdriver in the other hand and insert between the other two to form an "A". Hold down on the two and twist with the one.

When my boat was new the gas cap was very hard to remove but now, after much filling, it comes right off with minimal hand pressure.

I hope this helps.

In a REAL pinch, you can use your fishing pliers or needle nose pliers. Open them to fit each hole and a quick twist will do the trick!!

I keep a stainless steel one attached to my ignition key fob. I used 100 lb mono and aluminum crimps to attach it to the key and a float. That way it won't rust, sink or get lost in a tool box.

Check out this link. I bought one of these for my key ring because it is lighter than the stainless key.

I keep my key right under the hatch by the fill. Have it hanging from a brass clip, wire tied to the vent tube under the hatch. Always right there when I need it.
