electrical connections

I'm replacing my onboard battery charger. Instead of hard splicing the cable I'm considering
using a terminal connection between the the charger and the 18' of cable running to the trolling batteries.
Instead of paying 12$ for one any opinions on why a piece of starboard and four 1/4 X 3/4 ss bolts/washers/nuts as terminals would not be ok

For some reason, I cannot picture the location of your present charger. Be that as it may, why not just drop / install the charger for the trolling motor in-between the trolling motor batteries inside the battery box? Worked great for me and I just screwed it down to the deck inside the battery box. And if I am not mistaken, I have posted pictures of just such an install

190steve.s,
I'm like Putershark. I have a 195CC and just screwed my charger to the deck inside my console close to the batteries. It was about the easiest install that I've made to the boat so far and by doing it I've learned how to twist my body all the way around backwards to get inside the console; but it works great.

My charger is located in the aft-starboard compartment. I have a three bank so I can also maintain the
starting battery.
