I would be concerned if that entire 15 degrees was from just the mount moving, but I think alot of it is the shaft that is distorting/bending. Especially noticeable when try to turn 90 degrees to direction of travel. They are made from carbon fiber and have a lot of flexibility built into them so they can withstand a lot of abuse. We hit a dock once and actually folded it under and it popped right back no worse for ware.

Mine uses a heavy duty aluminum Minn Kota removable/slide mount and is in my photo gallery somewhere. Just a little movement but seems like yours is mounted to the plate at the very end and mostly unsupported.
I would imagine more movement but not sure if the mounting is incorrect or not, just different than mine. Wonder if the motor clears the edge of the bow by a good margin, if it does, could it be moved back over the bow step some? Just wondering out loud. |

Its not the shaft bending, i do know that. I can watch the hole mount as well as the side of the boat torque and shift.
I wasn't sure if this was what I should expect from a "plastic" triumph, because it certainly wasn't like that on my previous boats (1 aluminum, and the other fiberglass). |

I Had The Factory Plate That Had Wedges To Fill The Void And Make A More Solid Mounting Than I See With Yours . It Fastens On Top Of The Gunnel As Well As On The Sides Of The Rise. It Was Expensive But It Is Going To Take That Plate Or Something Like It Along With The Mk Quick Release Plate On Top Of The Factory Plate To Make The Motor More Rigid Especially At 80 Lb Thrust
I COULD NOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO THUMBNAIL THIS PHOTO SO CLICK ON LINK TO VIEW http://www.triumphowners.net/photos/.../112/ppuser/24

I have the same motor and the same concern..........My motor was mounted by the Dealer that I purchased the boat from............I have the block like yours and lift the motor off when not in use.......the Dealer cut a hole in the storage compartment and used large washers with nuts.......I did connect a strap that goes around the shaft of the trolling motor so it doesn't bounce on the trailer or when not in use............How was yours mounted and have you found out anything you can do???? thanks Ellie

Esorel, I ended up getting the same mount that Illogical has. Now its perfect... My dealer took care of finding it for me, but apparently Merritt Marine sells them. I think it's close to $200 but much better than the ghetto rig that i had /you have.

NICE BOAT!!! I have the cheap mount at this time but only have a 56lb 12v motor so it is not as bad. I can still see the flex in the mount when on high so I'm sure that you are seeing allot with the 80+!!! JB

Is that kind of a "diving board" set-up? Looks like the black panel isn't bolted to the boat till the last six inches or so? If you could manage another set of bolts even eight inches forward, it would take a lot of the flex out.
You may want to go for a removable 10" mast-style nav light, if you'll run at nite with the motor mounted. |

Sorry for the late response. I have the same trolling motor as you, a Riptide 80 lb. Mine has a 54" shaft. I used the same mount as ILLOGICAL GGC and it is bullet proof. I have no flex at all and it works like a charm. I use it in freshwater, the bay and even off the coast fishing in the kelp beds. No problems and I love the motor. Since you made the switch I'm sure you are satisfied.
