Question Prop Recommendation

I know there has been a lot of discussion about props on the board. I am as far away from being an expert as one can be.

I am running a Yamaha 115 4-stroke on a Bay 190. The original prop was swapped out by the previous owner, I believe it is a 13 X 16, for use on a high altitude lake....it just doesn't make it in the salt. I am running the boat off the California coast, totally in the salt.

I have read about a variable speed, 4-blade, Propulse; the 13 X 17 Stainless steel, and the 13 X 19 Aluminum. I know I am delusional, but is there any consensus?

Hi Albacore...The aluminum 13x17 turned out to be the right prop for me. It runs near all the test specs and is cheap compared to Stainless. I'm running the Yamaha 115 four stroke on a new 195CC. There is nothing wrong with going to the stainless if you have the bucks. If it were me, I would try the aluminum 13X17 and see what happens. I'm far from an expert as well but hopes this helps-John

My 195CC 115F Yami has the 13x19 Alum. It runs great (40mph) and gets on plane quick depending on load. I have water skied and tubed with no problems. I have been considering the SS props and may drop the hints for father's day...but I will likely wait a little while. Stainless has less distortion at high speeds creating better performance, or at least this is what I have read.

Frankly If I was getting 40MPH out of my 190 Bay I wouldn't even think about switching to SS. I'm assuming you have a T-top and if so 40MPH is excellent and you could probably buy 2 or 3 aluminum props for the price of 1 SS unit. I run a 13 1/4 x 17 alum and my top speed is 36MPH.

For testing and a excellent back up unit that does not rust, the Pro-pulse is a nice unit BUT once you put a Stainless Steel unit on it and find the one you like for your boat, you will never go back Not only will you gain top end, but the bottom end hole shot is greater than all other materials.

Now finding that elusive "perfect prop" (still looking at times myself) is not easy, but I feel that this demo program is hard to beat...
