Here are a few pictures of the one's that I installed in my 170CC. The holder itself has several mounting options. The first three show a flush mount...the fourth shows (in the lower right of the picture) a rail mount. I have two on each side of the boat mounted on the grab rails and two of the flush mounts on each side toward the rear of the boat for a total of eight. They are fully adjustable 360 degrees around and up to 90 degrees vertical.
These rod holders are made by Scotty and are very sturdy. They also have lots of other options. Here's a link to Cabelas where I bought mine. There's even a video that show you how they work. Cabela's -- Rod Holders What I like about them is that I can remove them completely if I'm doing a different kind of activity on the boat like pulling a tube or just cruising with the family. They may not be what you're looking for but they are an option. Let us know what you decide to do...with pictures please. Tight lines.

I have seen some pretty sweet setups on some greatlakes salmon sites. i have seen a 17 foot lund running 10 + poles and 4 downriggers off the back using a board accross the stern. I also saw a setup once that had a board accross the stern with 2 pipes coming down at the angle of the gunnel rod holders this way it was removeable.

There have been many postings on this site concerning rod holders, downriggers, etc, so please try using the "Search" feature. It really does work.
You might look at the "Article" that Little Casino wrote on how his 210CC is set up. I copied his ideas. Putershark also gave us the idea for mounting rod holders on our center console. We continue to like what we have. Sturdy, easy to use, etc.

Here is a picture showing the rod holders I purchased from West Marine. I also did not want to cut or drill in the hull. I have four on the console grab rail and one each on the side rails near the front. I have only tried them a couple of time resently but they are working fine. Plus you can see the rods while trolling.

Thanks
Thanks for the ideas. My search is pulling up other things other than rod holders. I will keep searching. I hope to have mine done in the next two weeks and will post pictures.

Before adding a t-top with 6 rod holders, I used 4 clamp on rod holders to the gunwale rails and they worked great. You can get them inexpensively, run outriggers from them using foam noodle inserts and change anglation simply. Just run some electrical tape on the rails first to keep from marring the stainless and use a hand file to round off any sharp edges on them as I found out the hard way!
Another way would be to use the current ones and add an multiple rod holder that just sits into the single holder. Another way is to mount a multiple rod holder in the splashwell or on the back of your helm seat. Plenty of options, plunder through Members Galleries and maybe you'll see something you like. Good Luck, Molar |

rod holder project pictures
I finished phase 1 of rod holder install. I used existing gunwale rod holders and mounted a galvanized trolling bar with down easter rod holders. Down easters are 10 years old with new rail mounts. I have never broke one and never lost a rod with these. The galvanized will give me the strength for the catfish. BTW-This is a catfish rig and i wasnt going for looks.
I plan on putting me two trollers on console grab rail. I am still thinking about what I want to do up front. Thanks for your ideas. Lindsay Last edited by BigBird; 05-24-2008 at 10:59 PM. Reason: wanted to change title to complete |
