Cleaning up my new Triumph boat purchase.

I just bought a 2002 Triumph 190 Bay, center console, and the owner "bragged" that he had never cleaned it for the 1 year that he owned it. It shows. Lots and lots of black specks, discoloration, some areas look like rust stains from something metal that was left in the boat, and it is generally just really dirty. He hated the self bailing feature, and I honestly don't know why. AND it looks as though for some reason, either he or the previous owner put some caulk on the outermost floor inserts on the forward half of the boat, on both sides. (also, I don't know why) But I do KNOW I'm going to LOVE this boat, and want to clean it properly, to make it look just as good as it can possibly look! Any suggestions would be really appreciated, thanks!

Hi Dudley and welcome aboard. I have activated your free 1-year Captains Club Member subscription so I moved your thread to the 190 forum since you're not a visitor anymore. Use the search link above to find many posts about cleaning a Triumph. The spots you're talking about can be taken care of with a pressure washer. Simple Green and other cleaners will do wonders.

SoftScrubs with bleach works well just don't leave it on metal, rinse immediately. Woody Wax is what I use on metal rails etc.
Don't worry yourself over the "black spots" but some have used pressure washers to remove some of them. Think they are molded in the plastic for our models.
With sidescuppers, change the flappers out with the ball in cup design and they will work better.
Enjoy, Molar

clean Triumph

Hi, Dudley.
In these parts we use never dull on the tough spots, it works great. You can buy it
in auto stores, and Wally world. I also use soft scrub, But it can dull the finish in that area.
If you do, the best way we have found to make the hull shine, is to use a buffer with
a natural sheep fur cover.Just clean the hull, don't use any wax, just the buffer and it will
make her look like new. Good luck

i have found mold and mildew bathroom cleaners to work well on the small black spots that appear. i have also heard of people using magic eraser.

Take a pressure washer to the boat...it will remove all of those little black dots. If you don't have a pressure washer, go to one of those "do-it-yourself" car washes...the kind with the wand. Just go over everthing with the high pressure water and you should be good to go. Any really stubborn stains can be removed with Soft Scrub, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, etc. Also, Liquid Tide (my personal favorite) with a medium stiff brush will take up any grease stains, fish slime, etc...and it smells good when you are done. Whatever you use, make sure to follow up with lots of fresh, clean water to flush out the bilge. Even though these boats are really low maintenance, just like the fishermen that drive them, they do need a bath from time to time to keep them looking (and smelling) good.

Congrats on the boat!

I've had alot of luck with clorox outdoor. I also purchased mr. clean majic eraser, but haven't used them yet. You can buy the clorox at home depot and lowes.
