a few thoughts-first fishing trip in 190 Bay

My son and I took our new 2002 190 Bay out for the first fishing trip. I am amazed at how stable this boat is compared to the skiff. Eventhough this boat is large and stable, we were in less than a foot of water twice today, throwing the cast net, with no problems.
The boat handles the wind, as well. Too bad the fishing wasnt as good as the boat performance.
I am teaching my youngest, who is 13, how to properly run/dock and load the boat.
I still am tying to get used to keeping the boat in the lane on the highway. It is the widest boat I have ever owned. I bet everyone thinks I have been drinking with all the line riding I did on the way home!!!
I have several projects to do and a couple have done. I will get the pictures posted this week.

Smile Fishing

Hi BB,

Glad you had a good time fishing. I also went fishing today. Did not catch anything special. I learned that when the bait well pump is off and it's choppy (2 - 3 foot rollers) when I turn the pump on, it doesn't work, the pumps runs but doesn't pump water. It seems to loose it's prime. When it does get going, it's okay.

baitwell-bilge

I found out my baitwell works great. Kept bait live all day and at home for 4 hours(turned off) while I went out tp dinner and run errands with family.
I wonder if you have a partial blockage with trash or something?
My bilge is not working and I have to crawl in the hole and figure out what is going on. Boat doesnt take on water, so I havent woried about it too much. I hate to see what kind of waves it takes to get water in boat. I am not even getting water through scuppers drains.
The guy I bought it from took me for a test ride with no inner hull plugs in. My confidence in the boat's viability even full of water is high.

Red face Let me explain better

Hi BB,

If the boat is in calm water and I turn on the pump, it works fine. In fact, I was thinking if I thread a pipe and lightweight hose with a nozzle, I would have a raw water washdown.

But getting back to the problem. Yesterday, as I was bobbing up and down, I noticed that if I turned on the pump, no water came out. So, while the switch was on, I forced water into the bait well outlet and then water came out. I think because the water intake is on the bottom of the boat, and the pump is above the seacock, an air pocket may occure when the boat is bobbing around. No big deal, just thought someting had broken.

ttop

Nice t-top. I love the new boats. I would have liked a new one but on the positive side mine was paid for before it came home. Its always a trade off one way or the other.
How far have you gone out in yours? I might attempt doubling up to go out at some juncture but for now I need to get boat in optimal condition and all the stuff I want to get done to it first.
I want to go troll for some kings as a first attempt.
Thanks,
Lindsay

I have had mine out 4 to 5 miles on the test run. I have fished the same distance out in 2 to 4 foot seas. I have the covers for the T-top and have not got wet on the bigger seas as of today. I will be out at Beaufort Inlet this weekend (Fri-Sat-Sun-Mon-Tues-) I will be targeting Spanish, Kings, Cobia, Red Drum, and my Favorite- - -> Sheepshead!!!!! I will be running out to AR315 & Cape Lookout for the Kings and Cobia if they are there + the Spanish. Where are you located? I do allot of Lake Fishing and love the lay out of these boats for that. I can still Bass Fish if I need my fix and have the Capabilities of Fishing for what ever I want when ever I want...... Have a nice Holiday and be safe.
JB
