External Bilge Valve

Decided the flapper type scupper over the bilge thru hull isn't working so well now, backsiphoning. Cleaned out 6 years of crude from bilge pump screen. I used a Whale one way valve.....I think it is a 3/4" as I initially tried them for the side scuppers prior to those being removed and filled. I mounted the valve on the outside of the thru hull so you have easy access in case of clogging vs down in the bilge which is not so friendly. They work well in an active system, like a pump, but too slow as a scupper alone in a passive system.

The valve worked perfectly!

No errant water coming in and it cleared debris etc from the pump w/o any signs of clogging.

Next improvement needs to be re-mounting the ball scuppers so they seal the holes when they go under water. Had 11 folks on the boat for 4th and water was coming in the deck with kids swimming etc but the bilge was dry as a whistle!

Was really cool with 4th of July fireworks overhead, good tunes, hot dogs on the boat grill and the subsurface transom lights a glowing. Hope all had a great 4th celebration.
