suggestions for pulling a transducer cable

I just bought a lowrance 520c and to my dismay the plug won't fit in the pipe that the zercom cable came out of. I usually use the trick of taping a piece of wire to the end of the cable when i pull the old one out. but this time it won't work. does the center access plate give me access to the battery cables and a path to feed the cable? any help would be great. One other thing if the center access plate is where i am going to pull the wires through what should i use to re-seal the plate when i replace it?

Cables

One of the 190 bay guys will have to give you the specifics, but there should be a pipe running from the stern to the center console to run cables through. This is probably the tube that the old zercom cable was in. If there is no enough room left for the larger plug, then there is the option of using a electricians "fish tape" to pull the wire through the bilge from the transom. As for sealing, use Rule (sudbury) Elastomeric sealant. Hope this Helps.

that about sums it up....draw back is, sometimes trying to feed a wire / tape through the pipe with existing cables could be a bit of a pain....I know I have done it. And Like Pamarine said, the other opt is to just feed through the outside of the pipe.

ok. the pipe for sure won't work. even if there wasn't any other wires in the pipe the lowrance plug is bigger than the pipe. I guess i'll be using the fish tape idea. i just hope i can get the tape to feed where it needs to go. Thanks for the help.

Interesting, what kind of plug is it? I recently installed a Lowrance LCX-28C HD and it was a breeze once I found the right way of getting to the tube. Is this the plug from the transducer to the unit? Is yours Blue screw on type?

Thank's for the help guys I got it figured out. With some suggestion from the guys at merrit marine I pulled out my electritians fish tape and pushed from the console to the back. this came out behind the battery box and allowed me to pull the gps and transducer cable back to the console. We took her for a test run today and all systems worked flawlessly.

Any access plate shouldn't need to be resealed. Your best bet is to run
it under the center floor then up through the splashwell. Sealing
anywhere else you should use Elastomeric Marine Sealant.
